I happen to dress like I'm homeless fairly often and most often do not have more then two ten dollar bills in my wallet but I have a credit card and I defiantly know how to use it! I made an oath to myself some time ago that if I sales person is being a b***, I will try on the most expensive thing in the store, try every sort of human act to see if it 'fits properly', then leave it on the floor and walk out.

Some people deserve a lesson!

I never feel like I'm good enough to shop there! I also know this guy who used to be pretty cool, then got a job at Holts and turned into an ass. When I'm inside Holts, he gives me a look like "what are you even doing in here".

Great post though!
And omg those shoes are amazing...

Oh wow, I could write an essay on the terrible service in Holts shoe department. Ladies contemporary is awful too. The funny thing is, they work on commission! My advice is if you're looking for Prada, Dior, Miu Miu, Versace or Jimmy Choo, go to Leone. The girl in the shoe departments name is Sherry, and she's an absolute sweetheart. But damn Holt Renfrew and their Louboutins! I swear they're the only thing keeping me coming back.

Great post darling

Such a great post! The most frustrating thing to me as a shopper is the lack of customer service. There is no reason for it! All these stores complain about the recession for lagging sales, however I think they need to take a closer look at their sales people.

Just like The Starving Stylist I also worked in a high end retail store, Holt Renfrew actually, and learned that you NEVER judge someone by what they are wearing. For me it wasn't about making the sale and getting the commission but treating every person that came into my department the same, regardless if they looked like they had money or not. I think the people that truly like the selling process, finding just the right item for their client and them walking away happy, is the sales asscoiate that would not stare you down but one that will eagerly and gladly help you out.

It is too bad that Holt Renfrew cannot shake the reputation of snobby sales associates and terrible customer service. I am currently opening a boutique in Gastown and hope that my clients never feel the way you did when just browsing, you never know when they may come back and spend a fortune.

"he looks at you and sums up the cost of what you’re wearing and if it doesn’t total over some thousand dollar amount, you’re not worth his time. " - -BEST LINE!

It's true, I used to work in high end retail (Leone) so I know how its like but honestly ever since working in high end retail, it taught me to never judge a shopper, NEVER. Someone dressing like a complete homeless person can easily walk out of the store after happily purchasing a $1,300 sweater! It happened to me on two occasions when I was working! Looks can be deceiving!

Regardless, I know how you feel hun, It sucks that some sales associates feel they have some kind of right to do such a thing and judge others like that.
