NYC has been amazing! This was one of the best things we’ve done so far, walking the Brooklyn Bridge. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day, and the view was incredible! After reaching downtown, (where the Bridge meet Manhattan), we jumped on the subway up to the Bowery to visit the Patricia Field shop! Sadly, I didn’t find anything I wanted to take home this trip, the last time I was there I bought a pink sequin skirt, a sequin beret and a silk top. This top, it seemed like all the clothes had a bit of tranny in them, although there was a $600 black ostrich feather coat I wanted… Must go back. Then off to see the much anticipated TopShop in SoHo. Talk about congestion and mayhem, definitely not too smart to go there on a Saturday. But it was great to see all the clothes. Walking through the store, it seemed like everything was an extension of what I already own; sequin jackets, hot pink skirts, silk blouses, and everything else imaginable covered in sparkles and sequins. So unfortunately I didn’t get anything. You may disagree with me here if you’ve checked the shoes out online, but I found them a bit too crazy. For some reason I’m into classics now? I don’t know what’s happened to me, that’s not my usual self. Maybe it’s seeing all the gorgeous classy Manhattan ladies in their basic blacks and creams looking so chic that makes me want to dress like that. (Speaking of the ladies here, just wait til my next post, featuring: lunching at Bergdorf’s!)

We walked for miles and miles on Saturday, and after SoHo made it over to the West Village were Tommy bought me one of my favourite things from this trip: a fake Chanel pearl necklace, with white enamel CCs. It looks very real, and for $15, it was definitely a steal. I also got fake Ray-Bans, and you’d never know they cost $15 either, both are from a little whole in the wall shop where you get to barter down the price. Pearls from $30 to $15, love that.

We spent the evening at Tommy’s brother Adam’s friends’ place. Jody and Matt were having some people over, so I got to meet young adults living and working in New York City. It was fantastic to talk to them about their experiences, some of them came from Vancouver, and it made me think, I could do this… Jody is a photographer from Vancouver, and she has shot twice for Aritzia. I didn’t know that and when she handed me her card I looked at the photo of the girl taking her shirt off to reveal a plain looking bra, and said, “There’s this store in Vancouver whose photography looks like this, you’d be perfect for them.” And she said, “Aritzia? Yes I shot for them.” Talk about foot in mouth. Very cool to talk to her about her experiences being a photographer in Vancouver, and how easy it is to make it to the top in Van, but so incredibly hard to establish yourself in NYC. Her boyfriend, Matt, started his own international art magazine called “Pyramid Power”, which he kindly gave me a copy of.

I’m up far too early writing this, so back to bed and I’ll post again tomorrow!
