{Wearing: Talula jacket, vintage sequin jacket, Brooks Brothers chambray shirt, H&M denim, Browns shoes, bracelets from a collection of small boutiques in NYC and London, rose gold bangle from Blue Ruby. iPad 2 case from an even smaller boutique in Paris. Aviators from H&M.}

This jacket is brilliant, warm and functional. It’s nice to have a break from carrying a purse some days and this jacket allows me to do exactly that! I love the expanding pockets.

It’s perfect trick-or-treat weather, I hope you find yourself with lots of treats this evening!

Happy Halloween!

If you’re going out tonight to a Halloween fête, I sincerely wish you a rain-proof evening –  I suggest trying one of those clear garbage bags over your costume. Hey, it worked when I was five. ; )

DID YOU KNOW that on Fridays Yew at the Four Seasons hosts Foxxy Fridays! (Which is put on in collaboration with Creme de la Creme Grand Wedding Showcase (pictured above), so there is no doubt it will be fabulous. Remember that night I had at Yew with Creme de la Creme… heaven.) AND THAT TONIGHT is the Halloween Bridesmaid Edition of Foxxy Friday!

Details: Show up at YEW between 5:30 and 6:30 pm in any preworn Bridesmaid dress (the more outrageous the better)! All who attend in bridesmaids attire will be treated to Foxxy Friday cocktails and bites and will have a big chance at winning the “Ultimate Bridesmaid Tea Party!” (Valued at $400.) FYI: You must be in attendance at the Nov. 6 Creme de le Creme Grand Wedding Showcase to qualify to win the “Ultimate Tea Party” and must be part of a wedding planned before Nov. 6 2012.

Today is the last day to enter The Doctor’s Closet and Alicia Fashionista‘s LOVE + MARK’D stationery giveaways! They’re both giving away a set of 4 cards – which the winner gets to choose from this big and fabulous selection!

Bisous!

Zara trousers and Pierre Cardin clutch. (Really love them.)

{Wearing: Vintage Karen Kane blouse (previously owned by my Mum), Zara trousers, Manolo Blahnik flats, vintage Pierre Cardin clutch, Michael Kors and Fossil watches, iPad case from a tiny shop in Paris and sunglasses from who-knows-where, coral lipstick by Anna Sui}

Last night I accompanied Dress for Success board member and good friend Liz Sperandeo to Y.E.S! Vancouver‘s Room With a View event at The Room in The Bay. The event featured a fashion presentation of The Room’s hottest fall pieces, a ridiculously good raffle ticket prize offering and models we could not only relate to, but admire: women with a deep philanthropic mission walked the runway. I must say I clapped aggressively for Heather White when she took her turn to walk! Heather is fab-u-lous. (Pictured below walking the runway and with me shortly after the presentation.)

{Making my exit after the event wearing: Tevrow + Chase jacket, sweater from another tiny Parisian shop – brand unknown – Zara trousers, Ballin shoes and Pierre Cardin clutch}

This morning I woke up to a cat walking up my side while I was lying in bed. Marie likes to wake me up by strutting up my legs and then perching on my hip, so I can’t move. Typical cat strategy. The sun was (is) shining through the window and I thought, perfect time to get out the iPad. Sifting through my Twitter stream I came across an article from The Huffington Post StyleStyle.com‘s new print magazine (cleverly entitled Style.com/Print), is now available at all overly priced, too-cool for anything but the latest of the latest shops, like Colette in Paris. (Again, how come we don’t live in Paris?) Anyhow, so I read through the fab article and started browsing the site, clicking tapping on the “Style” homepage and BAM! There it was. My article as a “featured blog post.” Well I’ll be. Brilliant start to the day!

P.S. The Doctor’s Closet and Alicia Fashionista have some proper paper-style treats for you… Oh, enough with being coy, they’ve each got a set of LOVE + MARK’D stationery to give away tomorrow! Better enter. (Another reason to love these women: they’re also following their own entrepreneurial pursuits! We really love that.)

{Wearing: Zara wool coat, Attitude by Jay Manuel sweater c/o Sears, Mavi jeans: Alissa (c/o), Vince Camuto shoes, Kate Spade bag, Armani sunnies, necklace from Blue Ruby}

This morning I was at Park Royal’s Village for my first important business meeting for LOVE + MARK’D stationery. Dark flared denim seemed rather appropriate for such a meeting. And speaking of stationery, Christmas cards will be coming out soon! Very soon – look out for them this week!

Stationery-style treats for you!: Right now The Doctor’s Closet and Alicia Fashionista are holding giveaways so you can win your very own set of LOVE + MARK’D cards! (And if you win, you get to choose whichever four cards you like. Talk about service!)

Yesterday my first article was published on The Huffington Post Canada! Give it read here and tell me what you think!

And have a fab Tuesday.

This weekend was one of those perfectly festive couple of days that really get you in the mood for the current season. The leaves here have been turning from green to yellow, orange and red (as noted in my recent fall frolic), and the pumpkin spice lattes are out in force, but it’s getting friends together over cupcakes, tea and a very festively decorated table that makes me feel like a season is in full swing.

SATURDAY I held a LOVE + MARK’D pop-up shop/tea party! Pictures of my home, pre-party:

{Apple cinnamon muffins – I had one a bit early… mmm}
{A completed order of Thank You cards ready for pick-up}

It was a wonderful day of chatting stationery, fashion and business ventures! Thank you to all the ladies (and gents) who came and took home their favorite cards! I loved having you over.

SUNDAY boyfriend and I ventured out to a giant pumpkin patch, complete with animals!

{Naturally I took my hot dog with me out into the field}

{Wearing: Talula jacket, New Look white shirt (London), Fidelity denim, Juicy Couture boots, Armani sunnies, necklace was a gift in part from my Mum and her twin, my Auntie J}

Do you have your pumpkin yet? And what’s your costume plan this year: something creative? Or maybe one of our fashion favorites?? (Two years ago I paraded around as Karl.)

Check out my first article for The Huffington Post Canada!

P.S. Follow me on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest updates!

Happy Monday! The Doctor’s Closet and I have a treat for you today: a giveaway!

On Monday my good friend Stephanie and I went for our annual Fall Frolic. For years now in October we’ve visited Stanley Park on a sunny day with hot seasonal coffees to enjoy the crisp fallen leaves and generally just have a good frolic around the park. I look forward to it every year!

{Cole Haan bag and pumpkin spice lattes from 7-11; I share this with you because we tried them on a whim, and were very pleasantly surprised! Delish, and only $1.98 (or so). Because of that great value we decided we should also get bags of 5 cent candies, bringing our expenditures to a more even $4.00. ;)}

{Wearing: H&M mens sweater, Prada dress, Zara belt, tights borrowed from Stephanie, Steve Madden boots, Armani sunnies}

Along the way through Stanley Park I carried around my recycled grocery bag collecting pretty undamaged leaves and chestnuts for drying. I much rather decorate with authentic Fall pieces than store decor and these findings will be perfect for a Fall-themed soiree I am hosting on Saturday!

{Marie’s new favourite toys are chestnuts. I lay them out in the sun on an old tea towel to dry and the next morning it was like an Easter egg hunt, but with chestnuts – Marie had batted them all around the apartment. Haha Marie, you funny little thing. Do you remember her Halloween sweater from last year?? Too good!}

{After making those yummy cupcakes last weekend for dessert at Thanksgiving dinner, I had quite a lot of cupcake mix and icing left. Tonight I whipped up the leftovers into mini cupcakes! And these little cupcake decorations are also in prep for Saturday!}

What are you doing to celebrate the Fall season?

Last Wednesday night The Bay hosted an intimate sit down with Jeanne Beker in the Platinum Suite at The Room before her public appearance. Being a little late I had to slip in as nonchalantly as possible, and try to contain my excitement at getting to have a real sit-down conversation with the woman I have admired and watched interview the fashion greats for the past ten years. Jeanne is just as fabulous and as personable as you would expect. We were given the opportunity to ask her whatever we liked. I really enjoyed that her answers were direct and thoughtful and she was refreshingly honest about the industry. One of my questions was: “how do you start getting dressed in the morning?” Jeanne said she starts with pretty intimates and some fab heels – always heels. (I was asking in reference to Jenna Lyons saying she dresses starting with shoes that her son picks out for her. Cute!) A little way along our 45 minutes with Jeanne, Lisa of Solo Lisa asked her what was in her baghere it is!

That’s me asking what kind of lipstick she has, the answer: (at the 0:42 mark) No. 25, Vendome

{Wearing: Zara coat, Bedo blouse, BCBG Max Azria pants, necklace from Macy’s, Joe Fresh nail colour. We shall assume Jeanne was wearing pieces from her Edit collection!}

Read more about Jeanne’s visit to Vancouver and The Bay on B Insider, The Bay’s blog! Major (may-jor) thanks to the ladies in charge at The Bay who put this together!

By Suzanne Timmins and Lisa Tant at The Bay. Below are five of my favourite looks shown on Friday night. (Event was blog-posted here!)

{Trend: (Above & Below) Mixing prints – LOVE!}

{Trend: (Above & Below) Mens wear inspired}

{Trend: Layered, Boho-grunge}

What is something wonderful that you’re doing today? From sitting down with a new glossy to taking your dog (or other pet, Marie has been known to venture out on a leash…), for a walk in this brilliant Vancouver weather we’re having today or putting on your favourite bright lipstick, make sure you do something that makes you smile. Every day. Bisous!

{Wearing: H&M denim & wool sweater (men’s department), shirt c/o Bilby & Moss, shoes c/o Tretorn, Cole Haan, cheapie sunnies: unknown brand – got them aaages ago!}

Just out the door to run errands this afternoon (must buy new shades of glitter for new stationery orders! Which in my books is fab-u-lous.), and being absolutely in love with this new H&M sweater (with leather pockets), thought I’d snap a quick photo.

I’m really enjoying a nice little sneaker over a flat right now, much better for running around town. (Many thanks to Tretorn for these comfy Nylite sneakers! Posted wearing them here for the Nylite Project) This big Cole Haan bag is brilliant: it’s big enough for my iPad, my notebook, headphones, iPod and a myriad of other knickknacks and lots of pockets.

Today is the last day to take advantage of my 25% off discount code on LOVE + MARK’D stationery! Click, click, click to see it! (Discount code: stylestruck to be used at checkout)

A big congrats to @Rymarie15 who won the giveaway for the Kensie sweater from Courtney Boutique!

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend! Hope you get to spend time outside!

{Wearing: Vintage sequin top, Tara Jarmon blouse, Talula Babaton trousers, Via Spiga shoes, Franchi clutch, Zara leather jacket (in hand)}

The Hudsons Bay Co. is really upping their fashion game. And thank goodness for that, we Vancouver fashionistas/os have needed an alternative to Holts for quite some time now. (While I think bad mouthing Holts is like sacrilege, there is a distinct feeling you get when you walk into that store that no matter how many Holts-bought items you are wearing that day, you somehow still don’t feel good enough to be there. Do you feel that there? I think it has something to do with the attitudes of the salespeople. It’s really quite off-putting.) But anyhow, The Bay has certainly become a competing high-fashion destination! With an incredible shoe selection (with an even better price range), and every designer you could want, the pickings are enormous and very well thought out, not to mention the fact that we now have our very own The Room in Vancouver! Clearly the buyers at The Bay have well-honed skills. Speaking of which, last night The Bay held a Fall Trend Report with Lisa Tant (EIC of Flare Magazine), and Suzanne Timmins (Fashion Director of The Bay, pictured with me below – follow her on Twitter! And an online letter from her here), both in from Toronto for the event. The report was a collection of wearable and real-woman friendly trends like 60s mod shifts with kitten heels (yay!), colour-blocking with bright wool coats and furs and print-mixing (my FAVOURITE!). Bravo ladies on a fabulous presentation, it was my favourite fashion show I’ve seen in ages. Pictures to come!

Happy shopping ladies! See some great stuff at The Bay? I would love to know! Tweet me!: @StyleStruck

Sometimes fab-tastic emails hit my inbox; one landed last week from Flare’s Assistant Digital Editor, Ryan Michael Chung. Flare Magazine was looking to do a feature on their site with Canadian bloggers wearing Canadian designers! So I eagerly packed up my Joe Fresh, my boyfriend (photographer and serious giver of support and good laughs! And dream boat. He knew yesterday was a big day and so came home with the enormous Harper’s Bazaar Greatest Hits coffee table book! Swoon.), and my camera and headed off for the Lions Gate Bridge – a quintessential Vancouver landmark for a seriously Canadian piece!

{Wearing: Joe Fresh blouse, trousers and nail colour, Zara belt, Ballin shoes, Michael Kors watch, the nameplate necklace was a gift from my Mum}

Big thank you to Flare Magazine and the digital team for asking me to be a part of this wonderful feature!

About six weeks ago I mentioned that I had left my office job in favor of pursuing my own business. Well, today is THE DAY! I am very happy to introduce you to LOVE + MARK’D, my new stationery collection!

{A set of Fall Thank You cards}

Falling in love with stationery happened at a very young age, I’ve always been taken with pretty sets of paper, the fact that they came with matching envelopes just bowled me over! But starting my own company came about on a train from Paris to Provence. My girl friend and I had just finished spending an inordinate amount of time perusing  a Papeterie (stationery shop), in Paris, and I thought, how come we don’t have such a grand selection back home? I want more than the usual drug store cards or book store stationery offerings. I purchased a pretty yellow notebook and mauve felt tip pen and got to work calculating a plan and sketching out potential card designs, all the while staring out onto the French countryside. It was rather inspiring. I think there is certainly something to be said about traveling and how it makes you want to realize your ambitions. My cards are customizable, personalized and handmade, each one being one of a kind. Below are some of my favourites, all of which are available on my Etsy shop (I ship internationally!), and my LOVE + MARK’D tab in my bog menu! I do hope you’ll have a look and enjoy them as I do!

Because I’m feeling giddy with excitement over sharing this with you and in the spirit of launching my new business, today through Saturday I am offering 25% off all card sets with the coupon code: stylestruck. Just enter it at checkout to get your discount! #Fabulous. So go on, mail some love with one of these sweet treats!

With many thanks for reading and clicking,

Olivia
