The Pictures Have Arrived!! The Guess by Marciano Event

With Lindsay Lorimer, Project Manager, Special Events and Marketing woman for Guess? Canada and Niki Blasina blogger of A Haute Mess and co-host! (Be sure to check Niki’s blog for event coverage as well!)

Thursday night a crowd gathered around the entrance of the Marciano store on Robson St, waiting to be let into a fabulous party co-hosted by Niki and I to celebrate Guess by Marciano There was wine, cocktails and delicious h’ordeuvres being passed around as a DJ played the latest tracks, and what seemed like hundreds of people to mingle with. Amongst the crowd there were fashion editors, stylists, both corporate and freelance, club promoters, marketing pros, CEOs, real estate agents, models, bloggers galore, PR people, fashion aficionados and mega-shoppers! Not to mention, the lovely representatives from Dress for Success, the non-profit we partnered with in putting the event together, (Dress for Success received a portion of the profits from the evening’s sales). Thank you to everyone who came!! The night was such a wonderful experience and I feel so lucky to have been a part of it!

Niki and I with the Guess? Canada head honchos, all the way from Toronto for the event!

Andrea Pahn, founder of Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics was on site to give girls a mini mani with her brilliant polish!

With Liz Sperandeo, a member of the board for Dress for Success, and a Dress for Success volunteer. Guess? asked Niki and I to choose a non-profit to work with, and who better than Dress for Success?! “Dress for Success® Vancouver is a registered Canadian Charity that helps low and no income women to transition into the workforce by providing professional attire.”

Second from left, stylist Dani Barnes of Dani Barnes Productions.

The swag!

Lovely fashion & lifestyle photographer Christine McAvoy!

Dessert: amazingly delicious mini cheesecakes… No I did not have three of these…

The outfit: Thank you to Guess for Marciano for allowing me to choose an outfit for the evening! In response to some of your questions, yes I got to keep it. : ) Head to toe Marciano, (except for the watch, that’s mine). I love this colour! Reminds me of a Tiffany’s box!

Cheers to a fabulous party!

Socializing For a Cause: YEF!

Last night what seemed like hundreds of fabulous Vancouver people joined together at the Renaissance Hotel’s 360 Room in support of YEF, Youth Education Farms, a non-profit founded by UBC grad Mr. Riley Mari. YEF’s mandate is to purchase farms in Swaziland to run as businesses that employ, nourish and finance the education of youth in the African country. The model is a brilliant example of sustainable philanthropy and I am grateful to Riley and his board for bringing it to our attention!

The goal of the event last night was to raise as much money as possible to build additional farms in Swaziland, YEF already has one working farm. I’m not sure how much the event raised, but I did see some wonderfully high figures below the items during the silent auction! I won’t also mention that a certain notorious Vancouver business man offered my date 1 million dollars to take me on a jet to vegas. Unfortunately I had to pass, I just can’t whore myself out in the name of philanthropy. It was all jokes, of course. But in seriousness, the event made for a fantastic evening of raising money, seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Congratulations to the YEF team for all of the good work you’re doing!

And because this is a fashion blog, here is what I wore to the YEF event!

Wearing BeBe top, B.B. Dakota skirt and Aldo heels. (Miu Miu look-a-like Aldo heels).

Below: Check out this fabulously fabulous woman, Joan Gusola, mother of Hayley and Katie Gusola! She has such an amazing taste for clothes, point-in-case: her shoes. It takes a fashionista with some serious cred to pull off such a fun look as this vintage Cheap and Chic Moschino soccer ball jacket. So appropriate with all the soccer frenzy going on right now. I love a woman with a sense of fashion humour! I hear she has an AMAZING vintage collection. I die.

And finally, one more fashion picture: 1 skirt, two girls!

Meghan Parks, representative for Alternative Apparel via Diverse Group and I both working the B.B. Dakota skirt! I must apologize to the lovely Miss Meghan for cutting our faces off, I was caught with horribly squinty eyes. Next time we shall take more pictures!

See you all Thursday night at the Guess for Marciano Event!!

A Day in the Life of StyleStruck

Saturday, February 13th the boys of DSQUARED² did a meet and greet at Holt Renfrew to launch the release of their new men’s fleece hoody sold exclusively at Holts. Jeanne Beker hosted the event, and looked très chic in a fabulous bomber jacket, jodpur style leggings and knee high black Louboutin boots avec 5″ heels! (I’m having a bit of a french moment).

Running home from work I was panicking because I knew I was going to be late for the 5 pm start time and that the line would be murder, but luckily the boys didn’t show until 5:30 as they were busy with media interviews until then. The line to meet the famous twins was as crazy as expected; it wove around the racks of the men’s department and went on for ages. So rather than wait, I snapped a few pics of Dean, Dan and Jeanne, and then when Jeanne left them to the signing, I wandered off to see what else was going on and met some wonderful women!

With Erin Ireland, host of TV show FMA. One of Erin’s signatures is her hot pink YSL lipstick, très joli! (Want to talk fabulosity? This woman’s lipstick sponsor is YSL!!). Want to see more of Erin, click here!

Jeanne and I go way back, at least 8 years! Which was when I started watching her on television. Fashion Television quickly became my favourite show and everything in my world stopped when it came on. It was just me, Jeanne and a whole lotta fashion. Saturday I met her for the first time, and this was a true celebrity sighting for me. (Where I work celebs seem to come in all the time, but have no effect whatsoever on me. Jeanne however, made me shake and fumble my words; “Jeanne, oh, Jeanne I uh I just admire you so much, oh my god you’re sooo nice! Eeeeee!” Something like that). I shall frame this picture and put it along side my Anna Wintour Post-It note

Upon meeting one of my idols, I became useless. I could hardly walk I was so excited, so I fumbled around trying to regain my composure, when I spotted a very well-dressed DJ… All DJs should really consider dressing like this.

DJ R I C C O spinning at the event.

Making the champagne proud was Dax G, model and friend from our bartending days!

After Dean and Dan finished signing pictures, they left the table to meet the fans and came upon a star-struck blogger…

Another star(s)-struck moment! How perfectly festive and patriotic we are! These boys have got to be some of the sweetest and most down-to-earth designers I’ve come across. And those jackets!! I am now wishing for a cherry red blazer.

The photo of Dean, Dan and I was kindly taken by Chris Naidu, pictured above. Chris and I also met on Saturday after numerous tweets sent back and forth, see his post about the event here! As if the day couldn’t get much better at that point, I met Jose Luis Reyes, Editor-in-Chief of The Fashion Guard! Click here for his twitter photo, because sadly the picture of Jose and I features me with my eyes closed. Not a good look.

After all of this excitement, I ran home to get ready for a birthday shin-dig at Venue Night Club. Here comes an impromptu photo shoot by blogger and stylist turned photographer Danielle Barnes

Posing alongside the very colourful Kate Moss, (a painting my sister did when we were in 12th grade. Impressive right?!!). Wearing: H&M denim vest, B.B. Dakota white tiered skirt, LaSenza tights, Michael Kors leather boots, H&M gold bracelets and Zara sequin purse.

My complete look for Saturday night. Vintage reversible cape from Woo Vintage in Gastown. (One of my all-time FAVOURITE vintage shops!)

The always fun and fabulous Danielle Barnes!

And there you have it! One of the most crazy and wonderful days in my life! Hope you enjoyed the read!

Mingling at Leone – Oct.29

All dressed and ready to go!

All dressed and ready to go!

Yesterday was practically a day of hysterics for me, my schedule was made down to the minute, from studying to errands to finishing a project to writing a midterm to going to Leone for a party to the after-partying… Crawling into bed was lovely at the end of it all! While it was crazy busy, I’d being looking forward to cocktails and couture at Leone for awhile, (and only decided at the very last minute what I should wear, before that I was all, “I have nothing, nothing! to wear!!” In the end I wore a wilfred boyfriend blazer, a pleather H&M strapless mini dress, tights and my Chanel heels, with a blue cheetah bracelet and sequin Zara purse).

The fashionistas did not disappoint, pictured are a few of my favourites, Kim with her gorgeous green fitted dress, Philip with his gingham and black skinnies and everyone else between. Lots of heels and gorgeous blouses. I am happy to report it seems that the ladies of Vancouver favor a more sophisticated silhouette over the more skin-tight looks that used to be so popular.

Thanks Kim for hosting a lovely party!

This lovely lady, (above) had on the most amazing necklace that she bought in Greece. It was a chain of Swarovski crystals with each end of the chain finishing in bits of fur. It’s always great to see someone wearing something totally different! (Also, LOVE the heels.)

IMG_5807Vintage SEQUINS! Brilliant top, she and I joked that we should have had my bag with her top together, girls love their sparkles!

The new “put that in your pipe and smoke it” from Matt Cherkas: “Put that on your blog and post it”. (Note: this must be said with sass).

Thursday night at Shine, a couple of my girls’ and my favourite DJs played, (Ernold Sane and DJ Ch3rk) in the back room, so we went down and had ourselves a little party. I don’t know what got into me 10 minutes before leaving the house, I was feeling casual so I lost the hot pink tee and pleather skirt and opted for jeans and a tank… something I have not done since I was about 18. But these fall nights are chilllllyyy, leather shorts just don’t cut it anymore!

Looking forward to the next night out, time to glam it up!

Attended a wedding, took some pictures…

Saturday night was a big night for Tommy and I and about 200 other people. A wedding reception! I stupidly forgot to take pictures of Tommy and my outfits, we both glammed it up, but I did do some paparazzi-ing! Anyone recognize the man holding all the purses? …Is that Karl??

A Few of My Favourite Things Right Now

Top: A rolling rack in what Tommy refers to as “the fashion room” in our apartment. It’s the room where I get to put all the girlie things, all my clothes and shoes and pink and sparkles and glitter and feathers… It’s a very happy place for me.

Our mornings, get on our computers and check the latest tweets, posts, what’s in the news feed, etc. I thought this morning was particularly cute and felt compelled to share. (Those mid-night blue toes are evidence of my pedi yesterday! Loving the colour, especially when worn with borrowed, over-sized PJs).
StyleStruck bakes!! From scratch. No help from Betty Crocker for this fashionista. This is my Crumb Cake, sooo yummy and perfect with tea for breakfast. I am so very domesticated.
Now off to Kelowna for a trip with one of my besties, Steph, will post pics and tell stories when I return!
