These kinds of images, filled with fashion-happy ladies dressed beyond the nines en route to fashion shows are the kind that remind me that fashion is indeed my happy sparkling, glorious place. Not too long ago I said that I find Tommy Ton’s images to be superior to that of Phil Oh, the photographer behind these pictures, but I must say, Phil’s images from the most recent New York and Paris Fashion Weeks are simply wonderful.

Street style photography reminds me that great design is forever great design regardless of the season that shoe is from, or how trend-forward that fur jacket was last year. Great design renders fabulous fashion no matter when it is worn. And this makes me love fashion even more. Until recently it was difficult to find praise for women wearing anything other than the latest looks, now it is readily available on every major magazine’s site making dressing even more pleasurable. Come April, I look forward to pulling the bins out from under my bed where my spring clothes of many years past live. I’ll bet there are a few things in those bins for me to fall in love with all over again.

Other notes of inspiration: this article on the appreciation and love of flats, these pastel bags and this gallery of images of Vogue contributor Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis.

Coming back down to life-in-Vancouver earth, I have a few things to look forward to in the coming week: reading through some of your impressive resumes for the intern position, brunch tomorrow morning at House x Guest (and the requisite brunching outfit – something pastel, no doubt) and the Vancouver blogger clothing sale happening this Saturday at The Waldorf. I look forward to seeing you there!

So you know I’m pretty into this whole Live Your Best Life thing, very into it actually. I believe that little (and big!) changes can easily add up to a better and more satisfying life. I thought I’d give you a look at what I’ve done in the past two months or so at home (since cohabitation) to improve my our life!:

  • I tossed out about a third of my wardrobe – by choice, surprisingly. When I moved in with my boyfriend it was very evident that I owned far more clothing than he, and that I wouldn’t be entitled to the closet space I was used to. So it was obvious that I was going to have to get rid of a few pieces. After the editing process started, it was hard to stop! We all have those pieces in our wardrobe that we don’t wear often but tell ourselves, oh when I lose five pounds I’ll wear that again, or maybe one day that piece will be back in style… So I tossed everything I had a story for but wasn’t actually wearing. I don’t miss those old flared jeans or too-tight blouses at all. And all of those clothes are going to show up at the Vancouver Blogger Clothing Sale!
  • Committing to cooking everyday. When I lived by myself it was so easy not to cook, for so many reasons: my kitchen was small, buying enough food for a full meal would go bad with only one person eating and other excuses. Now I actually plan to cook. (Holy life change.) I’m starting with easy things like last night’s chicken fajita, steak, potatoes and veggies (although admittedly, George usually cooks the steak), breakfast sandwiches (for dinner!) and spaghetti bolognese. Besides giving me a sense of pride, cooking for us makes me so aware of what we eat and far less inclined to go out for dinner, not to mention how much more expensive it is to eat out!
  • I created an office space in our home that is dedicated to all things work. (Although, I must be honest and share with you that I am writing this post from the couch, in my fuzzy hotel robe. The beauty of working from home.) Having a space that is dedicated only to work makes it so much easier to be serious about my day-to-day tasks and be proactive with ideas. Luckily for me the office space came with built in shelving and so organization is far easier than it has ever been before for me. Now that I understand this, I will always invest in shelves.

  • Giving better organization to our home. I’ve developed a new love for baskets having placed them on our office shelves, in the TV stand unit, under a side table holding blankets and on top of the fridge for bread and tomatoes. I divided all of our bathroom things (soap, tooth paste, extra toothbrushes, razors, Band-Aids, etc) into clear containers so that they stack easily and are out of the way until we need them. I also put all of my hair tools (straightener, curling iron, round brush and blow dryer) into an open decorative box under the sink so that my things aren’t all over the place. And you already know about my excitement for my newly organized makeup! This post best shows my jubilance for organization.

All of these things have made me happier in my home and help to keep my mind de-cluttered. When your mind is free of distractions (like dirty dishes or laundry that needs to be done – both of which I can proudly say I’m getting quite good at taking care of regularly), it is just so much easier to be focused on the important things, like blogging and sending mass amounts of emails, as I do.

If I could only get better at taking care of plants…

Wilfred blazer, Joe Fresh blouse, belt from Bang-On, Zara skirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes, vintage RayBans, vintage purse from a Berlin market (my sister picked it up when she was visiting!), Fossil watch. Bracelets: Heet, Tiffany’s and leather-diamante bracelet purchased in NYC }

There are a couple things in the works right now that I am so very excited to share with you! Soon, soon! Today we are driving out to Blaine, WA to pick up a few things I ordered for the card biz, LOVE + MARK’D will be at the Make It! show this year! Then, as usual it’s back to business in my little office.

Oh! And this Saturday is the DIY Bijoux Bar afternoon of all things jewelry-fixing and fabulous! Get your ticket here.

Work doesn’t stop on your birthday! I will be spending the first day of the 25th year (someone explained to me recently that my 24th year is over the day I turn 24… so this is officially the first day of year 25. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, I am 24 and having a hard enough time accepting that. I miss 23.) on my computer prepping my resume (**mid-day edit: An answer to a questions I’ve received about the resume comment: I’m not quitting any of my current projects, but potentially adding more) and sending mass amounts of emails! And perhaps perusing a clothing site that has just been made known to me: Simons – I’ve just loove their gingham shirts, in all three colours.

Have a fab Monday!

Or, we could more aptly call this post “Aftermath.” But a pretty aftermath. Generally I post on Saturdays but what with prepping for having friends over for pre-dinner drinks and appies last night, attending George’s rugby game then spending the afternoon at the clinic with George after him getting his eyebrow split open from a rugby-style collision, there was precious little time to be spent on the computer. As tweeted, last night was my birthday party, not my actual birthday – that’s on Monday, but the night to go out and wear the requisite sparkly dress! (And boy, did I!)

{ Basix II sequin dress passed down from my twin sister, and last seen here }

{ Birthday bag: Clutches of Karma clutch and all the goodies I had inside – Coach key chain, Bombay Brow Bar lip gloss (so good) & cards }

{ Sweet treats from sweet friends – I’m looking forward to freezing these macarons and serving them with ice cream! }

{ The accessories table post late night }

{ I wore this Ted Baker belt with my sequin-splashed dress, picked up at Harrods in London – last seen here }

{ My earrings (brand unknown), and the aforementioned sweet treat from my girl friends }

{ We (read, I) littered our apartment with fresh pink roses }

{ Elie Tahari shoes, poor things got a little scuffed at the heels }

It was a wonderful evening (cupcakes and candles documented here by Lyndi Barrett!) and a very memorable birthday  party! Now, let’s get this lazy Sunday started. Mmmm french toast and coffee.

{ Wearing: Rag + Bone cardigan, Hawks blouse, Zara trousers & clutch, Luichiny shoes, Fossil watch, bracelet & feather headband purchased in NYC, brands unknown }

What a miserable day outside. And unlike some days where I choose not to leave the warmth and comfort of home, today I will have to venture out to run errands. New tights for tomorrow night (birthday = some kind of pouffy party skirt and decadent heels), a walk through the jewelry sections at Holt Renfrew and The Bay (I’m on the hunt for a quality cocktail ring) and a party treats and beverages for tomorrow evening’s pre-dinner cocktails at our place. During weather like this it sure is lovely to know the weekend will bring some fabulousness and excitement to the week. Book your fabulosity for next weekend now with Lucy Wilson-Storey and my DIY Bijoux Bar happening on March 10th! Your ticket buys you an afternoon of jewelry making (we’re bringing all the tools and clasps, odds and ends and extra baubles you could need), cupcakes and fashion punch, and of course, gal chat. We’re so looking forward to it!

For tonight’s edition of THURSDAY PM, I’ve rounded up all the things that I believe lead to living your best life. I hope you enjoy!

  • Experiencing genuine happiness at the news of your friend’s success.
  • Believing that your dreams will come true, no matter the path you have to create.
  • There isn’t just one path to the level of success you want to reach – when a door closes, break down the damn wall.
  • Listening whole heartedly to people will bring them closer to you and leave them feeling light and happy, after all how often is it we find someone who will truly listen to what we are saying without interjecting with their advice? Not often. Be that person and reap the benefits.
  • Offering advice that has their best interest at heart, not yours. In my experience many young women give their girlfriends advice, particularly that which relates to the love life, that reflects on their current situation rather than on their girlfriend’s situation.
  • Cooking for yourself, it deepens your sense of self-confidence and broadens your life skills.
  • Paying yourself first before the stores. Seeing your money grow creates a calmness that cannot be bought.
  • Have a period of quiet every morning and evening, even if it is literally just five minutes to sit down and be calm. Your hard-working brain deserves it.
  • Make a list of goals and then create steps to get to those goals. Reward yourself when you reach each goal. (I like to treat myself to a Peanut Buster Parfait at Dairy Queen when this happens, although this works against my work out goal and then I have to spend double time on the treadmill, but no matter, I got my reward.)
  • Reading. You’ll be so impressed with yourself when your vocabulary naturally betters, so will those around you.
  • Smiling. It’ll immediately boost your attitude and it’ll also make you look prettier.
  • Giving yourself permission to fail. Again, easier said than done, but imagine the breadth of opportunities you could be passing up for fear of failing. (I’m downright scared of failing at a latest venture, but if I do, I do and that’s it. And then I know that that isn’t for me, but I’ll have to find out first and I will not go down without a fight. That’s the stubborn side of me.)
  • Being creative. There is something magical in allowing your mind time to wander freely. Perhaps it’s drawing, painting, cooking, sewing or building that does this for you. Please give yourself the time to do this, it’s like a chocolate soufflé for the soul.
  • And finally, give yourself a reason everyday to be proud of yourself. I’ll bet your hair looked fabulous today, or you gave yourself a great manicure, or even better, you did something for somebody else or expressed true happiness for somebody else. Let these little things serve as reminders of how great you are and leverage that good feeling into an even better attitude. Wait for it, I’m going to get a little cliche here… Life is an open book and it is up to us to write our chapters. I want mine to be as inspiring as can be.

Welcome to Thursday lovelies!

As seen before (here), I’d like to bring you a Thursday edition of The StyleStruck Times: a round up of all the best things I’ve found on the web this week.

  • Vogue has introduced a new feature of items their top editors are currently obsessing over: Editor’s Eye. I particularly enjoy Tonne Goodman’s obsession:

  • Leifshop.com is currently selling the most beautiful agate trivets (fyi, for those who don’t know, because I didn’t know, a trivet is “a stand for cooking vessels”). Agate, so hot right now! ($17 each.) For a girl like me who is trying to add manly touches to her home, these cabin-style coasters are perfection.

  • These pastel framed chalkboards on Etsy are so adorable (especially the blue one) and are the perfect way to bring Spring’s pastel colours to your home!
  • This quote on Pinterest.
  • My 24th birthday is coming up on March 5th and I can’t decide which shoes are most birthday appropriate, so far these are in the lead!

  • And finally, the DIY Bijoux Bar, coming up on March 16th! (Imagine, what a weekend! DIY on Saturday, then blogger sale on Sunday!)

{ Click above to watch the segment! }

{ Sitting with Breakfast Television host Jody Vance Tuesday morning with models Lisa Kwong, Erin Treloar & Brianna Saimoto }

Many thanks again to BT for having me! All of the clothes featured on yesterday’s segment are from Twist Fashions on West 4th, and the shoes are from Lord’s Shoes on South Granville. Hair by Joy Mitchell, and makeup by BT’s Mei Chiu. Below find what we were wearing:

Lisa: Esprit jean jacket, John and Jen, Sanctuary denim, Pour la Victoire shoes, Michael Kors bag.

Erin: Iris tank, David Kahn jeans (similar here), bag by Due Fratelli, Peter Kaiser shoes, Shereen Derousseau bracelets.

Brianna: InWear leather jacket, Michael Kors dress, Ramontenza shoes, Michael Kors bag.

Me: Mexx jacket, Michael Kors tank, J Brand jeans, Nina shoes.

You know what’s great about bright colours? They sure give you a boost. Black can be sexy and all that (I know from experience that men understand the darker colours better), but sometimes a gal just needs a boost from a vibrant yellow or a punchy pink. I would say that colours are definitely my happy place. Colours and a whole heck of a lot of prints. (Thank goodness they’re so in this season – I’m no longer the crazy mixing all my prints. Now we’re all a bunch of fashionable crazies!) Even when I’m running out for a litre of milk or cozied up on the couch blogging, or playing solitaire or getting my bingo on over at “FoxyBingo.com,” a bright colour really floats my boat. You likely know what I’m talkin about, and have seen my love of colours here, here and here. While I tend to go for a kaleidoscope trouser or a bright sweater, bright denim is an easy way to give flare to your look, as seen above in the segment. I look forward to the rainbow of macron/sorbet/Crayola colours to be seen this spring/summer on our city streets!

Thank you to all who watched!!

March 17th the gals and I are getting together all of our retired pretty things at the biggest blogger sale this city has ever seen. I can’t even imagine the kind of clothes these stylish ladies have collected! (I know I have A LOT to bring to the party!) Join us at The Waldorf for the big sale! I plan to have items available for $2, $5 and $10 – shoes, bags and lots of clothes!

And speaking of fabulous lady-days, the day prior I am co-hosting an afternoon of DIY jewelry making! Details here.

Bisous!

{ Wearing: Tevrow + Chase jacket, H&M scarf & aviators, Fidelity denim, Vince Camuto shoes, Zara bag, Social Experiment cocktail ring & Stella & Dot ring }

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of chatting with (more like taking at, at some points – thank you to all the students for listening to me!) Lyndi Barrett’s Fashion PR class at Blance Macdonald about the business of blogging. And my, was there a lot to share. I had wondered if I might run out of things to say, but I certainly did not! I had a fabulous time talking blog-shop and hope that some of what I shared was helpful to future bloggers! (Two great articles referenced yesterday are these: here and here.)

Above: Looking through my notes – I included a list of to-dos for killing it at fashion week from Anna Dello Russo, you can see it here! It’s quite funny, you ought to give it a read!

Bonjour! Mon copain et moi vivons ensemble, and it is taking some time for us to settle in. We’ve merged our things, rather successfully, and now we’re discovering what “our” taste is. So far our taste is a fine balance between not too many mirrored surfaces (thanks to all the pieces I brought!) and natural textures like his oversized shades-of-brown tweed sofa (the best place to curl up after a long day), a large decorative wooden bowl and a few key woven baskets for accessorizing and hiding trinkets. Below I have captured a few of my favourite spots in our new home.

The office came with built in shelving and I’ve just finally organized it to satisfaction (the office is also the handbag-closet)

Hiding beneath our round glass table (also seen here in my previous home) is a basket purchased from HomeSense, holding our giant cozy throw for watching movies

The marble counter in our bathroom where an apothecary jar holds our daily needs: Q-tips & cotton squares for removing make-up and nail polish

Also on the counter, living next to the apothecary jar, is a savon plate from The Cross Decor & Design; perfect for holding jewelry taken off at the end of the day. Featured are my beloved rosegold Fossil watch and Stella & Dot eternity ring

The part of the bathroom counter I have taken over: This simple 3-shelf organizer from London Drugs marks the first time my make-up has ever been properly organized, and it makes mornings so much easier!

My go-to products (and favourite L’Occitane candle!), from top left: a large, extra-soft powder brush, Joe Fresh foundation brush, angled brow brush, Physicians Formula Mineral Wear, Chanel blush in 10 Tweed Pink, BonneBell eyeDefiner in 002 Aubergine, Lancome Pure Colour Eyeshadow in Amethyst, Bombay Brow Bar Hi-brow shadow in Ash Brown and Clinique Glow Crazy Powder Highlighter in 03 Gold Dust

Getting our home to our liking is proving to be more of a task than we had thought, but so worth it. Every new little addition and change makes it feel more like home and more like us.

02/27: I am so excited to be visiting a Fashion PR class at Blance Macdonald tomorrow afternoon to chat all things fashion blogging! My favourite part is always the question period, I hope they have lots! I’m also so pleased to say that tomorrow is George and my one year anniversary and after Blanche, we’ll be getting ourself some decadent treats, just you know, to congratulate ourselves on a wonderful year.

02/28: Oh! Last thing – along with Twist Fashions and Lord’s Shoes, I am sharing spring fashions on Breakfast Television on Tuesday morning! I hope you’ll tune in! Now what to wear!

{ Wearing: Zara jacket, Joe Fresh blouse, J Brand denim, leather cap purchased at House of Leather (I have searching high and low for a leather cap! Didn’t expect to find it next to stud-encrusted leather chaps… But I finally got it!), Clutches of Karma snakeskin clutch (c/o), Ballin snakeskin shoes, H&M aviators, Chanel lipgloss }

If you had the chance to visit my blog last evening, I hope you enjoyed the new section. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, scroll down just a little to “Thursday PM” and have a read. Let me know what you think!

I hope your work day is short and your weekend fabulous! Bisous!

Dear darling readers,

I would like to introduce you to a new part of my blog, tentatively titled “Thursday PM.” This new addition will be a Thursday evening feature sharing more personal thoughts, memories and general ideas about life. After the birth of Pinterest and therefore the up-spring of oh-so-many blogs focused on pretty pictures, an overdose on quotes and the pushing of online purchasing through “want” posts, I find there is room for some deeper conversation in our online-fashion world. Just because we love pretty things doesn’t mean we don’t also have pretty meaningful thoughts, right? It seems recently that many blogs are evolving around the business model of online shopping, and while this may be financially fruitful for some, I still prefer those with sentiment. Garance Dore does this well. Her posts tell a story. I think this is why Vogue is so appreciated. While Vogue is arguably our temple for the freshest and most innovative of fashions, Anna’s writers lace trend-based articles with dreamy nostalgia and a sense of reverence for what fashion means to the creative mind. Vogue offers a balance between clothes and a conversation discussing the challenges of life. I know there is a balance to be had on this fashion blog, and I strive to share that with you. And so with that, here is the first installment: a trip down memory lane from my time in France this summer and a short bit about what it meant to me. I hope you enjoy it. Xo, Olivia

{ From above: 1-Tara Jarmon dress, Old Navy cardigan, Armani sunnies, Gianni Chiarini bag, 2-Paris’ love lock bridge, 3-view from the farris wheel in the Jardin des Tuileries, 4-Au Nom de la Rose in Montmartre, 5-Posing for photos in our Paris hotel room at the request of Vancouver View }

{ From above: 1-decadent pastries in a cafe, 2-fresh hydrangeas, 3-the Eiffel Tower glittering at 10pm on a Saturday night, 4-Marie Antoinette’s bedroom, 5-about to lift off in a hot air balloon above Paris: H&M t-shirt & aviators, Zara belt & skirt, sandals from a Parisian shop }

{ From above: 1-gelato in Provence, 2-seaside in Cassis, 3-Zara sandals & H&M aviators, 4-strolling in Monaco, 5-Nice, 6-macarons glaces at Ladurée }

Visiting France as an adult was a long time in the making. I had been dreaming of the sidewalks lined with shops selling fresh flowers and cafes that spilled patrons and their drinks out onto the walkway, inadvertently making you peer into their shops as you make your way around the tables and chairs. Visions of glass cases filled with sweet, colourful pastries, delicate freshly baked croissants and chic flats on the Parisian girls, well dressed men perched lightly on slim bikes, blazers with elbow patches and haphazard book stalls edging the River Seine all filled my mind. I was not disappointed. Paris was a dream that I revisit often. There is a nonchalance in the air there, a very casual chic sense of being that seems to be ingrained into society. Life is appreciated in France; lunch breaks are not timed but stretched out into the afternoon as people luxuriate in their espressos and the romance of the sidewalk cafe. The city was inspiring. So inspiring in fact, that I promptly left my office job when I returned. After having experienced such wanderlust and fervor for the world’s offerings how was I ever to be content with staring out the sad window at the barren construction site below, knees jamming into my too-low desk, carrying out orders from a superior? Obviously I couldn’t. Thanks to my eye-opening travels I find myself on an entrepreneurial journey where new ideas fill the days with excitement, as do dreams of returning to France again as soon as possible.

What have your travels meant to you? I would love to know. Bonne nuit!

P.S. My past articles for The Huffington Post would fall under the Thursday PM category, and so if you are looking for more reading, you may find them herehere and here

{ Choker & floral blouse on OracleFox.blogspot.com }

{ My new necklace joining my other baubles bedside. Gold hand figure from Front & Co., leather bow bracelet by Storey Design. Lamp purchased at HomeSense, Dior Maison tray (a splurge from my time in Paris! First seen here), Clutches of Karma clutch (a new favourite line) }

Flipping through the latest issue of Harpers Bazaar recently I came across a page dedicate to chokers! I’m rather delighted that they’re back, I quite enjoy them – and they’re so easy to create for yourself! Here’s how I made my own using an old earring and a piece of scrap ribbon:

I chose a floral piece from my bag of broken baubles and attached it to a piece of grosgrain ribbon using a a needle and thread, making sure to really secure the flower by double-threading the needle. (I did this while watching Mona Lisa Smile, ohh what a great movie that is.)

It was one of the easiest DIYs I’ve done, just four materials! (Needle, thread, jewelry piece and ribbon.)

Happy DIY-ing!

{ Wearing: Old Navy blouse, H&M shorts, Lily Pulitzer sweater, Tretorn Nylite sneakers (c/o), Gianni Chiarini bag, New Era hat, Holt Renfrew earrings, bfrend braclet (c/o), Fossil watch, chain bangles purchased from a street vendor in NYC’s SoHo }

Nautical, oh how we love our nautical! Those Breton stripes we could recognize in our sleep, crisp white trousers, gold-buttons adorning our sweaters for when the wind chill gets nippy, and of course the color palette: red, white and blue. Can’t you just picture yourself seaside in Cape Breton, or Coal Harbour, about to board a magnificent yacht with straw picnic basket in hand (champagne already chilling on board), and a pair of fabulously over-sized aviators adding even more glamour to your look? Rather easy isn’t it?

We’re pretty darn lucky, us West (and East) Coasters, for we live close enough to the sea to warrant a day trip out on the waves. One of my major to-do’s on my Spring list is a day of boating, starting in the Burrard Inlet and then exploring around Bowen Island, perhaps even further, with a packed lunch and a big blogger-sized camera. It’s quite magical that we can be whisked away and be back in time for dinner with friends downtown. Lucky, indeed. But first I have to complete my BC boating license online, which I have always wanted to get!

Naturally you’ll need a few things for your boating excursion, like this striped sweater dress, (or this cute Madewell striped tunic!), white denim cut offs, a simple sneaker for on deck and of course the perfect carryall.

* Note: I mentioned above I want to get my boating license, upon looking into it I  discovered they refer to the whole maneuvering the boat thing as “operating a pleasure craft.” Ha. If you didn’t giggle too, then you’re holding it in.

Happy fabulous spring-time boating!

I want to send FIVE of you to a Hollywood flick! You and your lucky date!

ONE FOR THE MONEY features Katherine Heigl playing Stephanie Plum, who, “unemployed and newly-divorced, lands a job at her cousin’s bail-bond business, where her first assignment puts her on the trail of a wanted local cop from her romantic past.” – IMDb

THE OFFICIAL PRIZE PACK: Five of you fabulous readers will get a double-admission run-of-engagement pass from Cineplex (good for two people, valued at $25) and a cute coiled notebook!

To enter do these two little things:

  • Comment on this blog post telling me… what your favourite snack at the movie is. (I’m a curious kinda gal.)
  • Follow me on Twitter and Tweet “Hey @StyleStruck! #TakeMeToTheMovies! I’m entering to go see #OnefortheMoney! http://bit.ly/zpN5vA”

And then when you win you should instagram me a pic of your movie look, or your movie treats, because sharing is fun and movie outfits and dates are cute. I like to make a bit of an event out of going to the movies, always heels, gummies snuck in in my bag, and sometimes I even share (ha - that’s a questionable word choice) a too-big-for-even-two-hands bag of popcorn.

**Contest closes Thursday, February 23 at 12 pm. The winners will be chosen and notified that afternoon! The winners will receive their tickets via courier.**

Giveaway now closed.

Good luck!

This morning I dressed for a segment on Breakfast Television! You know I adore prints, so I chose these H&M trousers and paired them with snakeskin heels by Ballin (purchased in Monte Carlo). It’s a fun experience being at the studio; you arrive before what normal people consider “early,” have your hair touched up by a fantastic hair stylist (I was sooo thrilled with my blow out by Lance from Barrette salon!) and then have your face painted on. The lights are so bright for the camera that you quite literally need your features painted on. It’s quite fun, like playing a character for the day. Click here for today’s “day-to-night” segment!

{ At CityTV studios, Wearing: Joe Fresh silk blouse, H&M pants, Ballin shoes, Fossil watch, gifted name plate necklace }

The segment was all about quickly changing your look from office to cocktails without having to go home and change. Below is Lucy’s cocktail-ready look.

Model Lucy (and bag designer) wore: BCBGMAXAZRIA blazer and trousers, H&M blouse and bracelets, Storey Design bag and my DIY necklace! (When you can’t find what you want, you make it.) **All clothes currently available in stores.**

Nothin like a little dose of fashion to get the week started off right! Bisous!

As mentioned yesterday, this is a DIY necklace! With help from my jewelry gal Lucy (Storey Design), we brought together an old, broken necklace (missing parts), and the innards of a vintage pocket watch for this statement piece! I think altogether this necklace probably cost us under $5.00, but considering that we already had all the pieces I would call this a pretty sweet and free addition to my jewelry box. Oh the beauty of DIY!

Here’s how we did it:

{ The materials: necklace, ribbon, needle and thread, various vintage adornments & an array of small baubles I’ve been collecting, stored in an earring box }

{ Faux tortoiseshell necklace – brand unknown, black grosgrain ribbon }

I’ve had this necklace lying around for ages, but it always felt like it was missing something, likely the focal point of a pendant. To start, we laced a thin grosgrain ribbon through the holes of the links to add more texture and weight (figuratively), to the necklace.

We decided on the larger time piece/medallion for a pendant because of the size (looks proportionate to the size of the links in the necklace), and the pretty gold color. We attached the medallion by sewing it onto a piece of folded ribbon we attached to a link of chain in the necklace. Luckily there was already a small hole just big enough for a needle (double threaded), to fit through so fixing the medallion to the ribbon was fairly effortless.

Ta-da! All done, and very pleased with the result! #iloveDIY #letsdomoreDIY! More to come!!
