{ Twik anorak (c/o Simons.ca – can you tell I’ve been quite into this coat as of late?), JNBY blouse (c/o), Mavi denim (c/o), Aldo sandals, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Fossil watch, H&M sunnies }

On Wednesday evening I met up with Eryne Ordel (Mavi Canada’s PR & Marketing Manager), for a drink at the fabulous Hotel Georgia‘s outdoor, fourth floor lounge Reflections. Just being there is a treat. I ordered a Cosmopolitan Daisy martini – a cosmo made with gin instead of vodka and oh my, was it ever good. I’ll definitely be going back for another one of those! I walked the few blocks home afterwards to co-host a couple friends for a movie night which meant popcorn, m&m’s, red wine and spring rolls… so much for my diet. Our movie of choice: The Count of Monte Cristo – sooo good! Do you host friends over very often? We’ve just started having people over to our new place and are really enjoying it! My key host necessities: a couple scented candles lit, one on the coffee table and one near the door to create ambiance, a great bottle of wine, blankets draped over the couch for easy access during the movie and fancy wine glasses – you know the ones.

{ Wearing: Twik coat (c/o Simons.ca), Icone gingham shirts (c/o Simons.ca), Fidelity waxed denim, Shoemint shoe-boots (c/o), H&M aviators, Aldo bag (old) }

It’s not often my boyfriend and I find ourselves with a day when neither of us are tied to obligations. When we do, we savor it spending the day doing exactly what we please.

Morning started with a leisurely sleep in. After a medium roast coffee (well-doctored with cream, sugar and lots of cinnamon) and a long, sunny stroll down Coal Harbour’s sea wall (Aritzia’s cowichan sweaters are perfect for brisk Vancouver mornings), we pulled on proper clothes and took ourselves for the most delicious, fresh bagels in Vancouver. Bagels led to picking up groceries at Costco, and a butter chicken sauce I can’t wait to try. I had George snap a few shots of my love for gingham and then we made our way home to curl up on the couch with a sweet movie: WALL-E. (Just loved it.) As I’m sure many of you know, Mad Men season 5 premiered last night, so the rest of our evening was spoken for: having dinner (red wine and a bocconcini, tomato, basil pizza) while we enjoyed the antics of Don Draper’s world. A perfect Sunday.

You may have noticed a lack of jewelry, save for my nameplate necklace. While I adore the right amount of decoration, there are times when piling on the baubles and jewels just irritates me. Sometimes you want to go about your business without your wrists clinking and bangling about you. Sometimes, you just need to be free of all that entanglement, you know? I am most certainly one of those girls who once through the door, removes all jewelry, cinching belts and constricting garments. Clothes are fabulous, but so is my monogrammed Four Seasons hotel robe.

Spending the day attending appointments, a Main St. meeting and making cards. One fab thing about my line of work: everyday can be casual Monday, or dressy Wednesday – it just depends on what the boss says (me).

FYI – The next and last shipment of LOVE + MARK’D Christmas orders will mail on Thursday, arriving in the Vancouver, Lower Mainland area by Monday, Dec. 21.

The Christmas festivities are well underway: Saturday night was spent at Stanley Park’s Bright Nights Christmas Train! See picture tweeted here. (Wearing pink fur earmuffs from Holt Renfrew, coat from H&M.)

P.S. In case you missed it on Friday, here is my #FF feature on VanCity Buzz!

P.P.S. I wanna know, would you wear this outfit? If not, how would you wear the pieces? Tell me! Above, where it says comments. I dig your input.

High street shopping: the chain retail stores that are generally a sure thing for that shopping fix we all need. The affordable stuff that is generally (or I suppose ideally), paired up with the less affordable stuff. After I dressed I realized everything I was wearing was rather affordable, I gave myself a pat on the back.

*The difference between gifted and courtesy of (c/o), being that gifted items arrive in a gift or “swag” bag, items courtesy of are purposely selected and given for blog/brand collaboration. This Joe Fresh coat was a product of the gift bags at the Joe Fresh store opening party last October.

Friday morning and a giant milky coffee. I am so excited for the weekend, mostly because I just realized yesterday that tomorrow would be Friday! Haha… Same as how last night I commented to George that I didn’t understand how come both sides of the front of my button-up chambray shirt had buttons… Isn’t one side supposed to have the holes? Oh wait. I was looking at my shirt with the buttons done up. I’m okay with you knowing I did that. George had no words for me. I am also excited because tomorrow morning I get on that big boat to head to Vancouver Island to visit my Pops on his boat. Happy weekend!

Hellooo London! Musings of a Vancouver fashion blogger in Europe – Part II

The AM:

We woke up bright and early this morning to head to Harvey Nichols for breakfast. Harvey Nichols would be like a Nordstroms or Barney’s I think in North American comparative terms, and it was has a fabulously cool cafe on it’s top floor. I tweeted about it here!.

{ Waiting for our train, wearing: Brooks Brothers chambray shirt, H&M jeans, Zara leather studded belt, Zara flats, Frances Cobiasia leather bag and Fossil watch. All pictures thus far are of the touristy variety, that’s because I am a tourist, though I’m going to try and go for the more natural poses soon once all the excitement wears off }

{ Vanilla latte, fresh croissant with a mini raspberry jam and branded butter and traditional Scottish porridge with honey, sliced almonds and brown sugar – the iPad has been a fantastic help on our journey, if you go traveling I highly recommend getting one }

{ A Harrods shop window – you can literally get anything and everything at Harrods }

Harrods (a British institution), was quite the adventure. Up, down, across, back down – you can easily get lost in their many departments and five floors. We wandered through designer shoes (there’s a whole section dedicated to the most expensive shoes you can imagine, complete with signs that say “Do not touch”), women’s designer clothes, women’s contemporary clothes (where I picked up a skinny fuschia leather belt by Ted Baker), the animal kingdom, the fur department, kids clothes (mini Dior anyone?), lighting, furniture, stationery (found a set of beautiful sunny yellow note cards and envelopes, as well as a set of white leather coasters stamped with London’s skyline), musical instruments, the list goes on and on. We eventually found our way to the Harrods gift shop where I couldn’t resist one of those plastic-coated tote bags covered in iconic British and Harrods pictures. It was quite the ambitious undertaking for our first real day in London.

The PM:

For dinner and drinks we ventured by metro over to Islington which is in the north of London. Once out and about I realized that I really looked like a tourist – the Brits wear a lot of black.

{ Wearing BCBG Max Azria blouse, H&M shorts, Zara flats, Aldo fish ring and Pierre Cardin snakeskin bag, seen in my last post! }

Tomorrow I’ll head over to St. Paul’s Cathedral for the Sunday morning service (I like to do these things every now and again), then meet up with my travel buddy, Marisa, to visit the Imperial War Museum and then later stroll along the streets of Nottinghill. Monday we pack up for a couple days to visit the English countryside. I’m so looking forward to relaxing in the Cotswalds!

Outfitted for the Canada Day City tv and e-beauty party tonight at the Opus Hotel.

{ Wearing: Brooks Brothers linen blouse, H&M shorts, vintage leopard print pony hair belt (from here), vintage Pierre Cardin snakeskin clutch, BCBG Generation heels, fish cocktail ring from Aldo, Michael Kors watch, Stella & Dot silver ring, gold ring from Blue Ruby. Pearl studs. }

Tonight City tv and e-beauty hosted a party for people-about-town, bloggers and editors to become acquainted with e-beauty, Canada’s new and ultimate online shopping destination for beauty products. I’ve already found a few things that I want…

{ With Arpen Thandi and Kendall Titchener – admittedly, not my best angle, but that’s okay. Up above: swag bags, in the middle: my date’s hand (Liz Sperandeo), reaching for the chocolate filled macaroons! Yum! }

Time for bed, and by bed I mean I’m going to tuck myself in on the couch for a bed time story, and by bed time story I mean I’m going to stay up a bit late watching the first (and only sadly), season of Cashmere Mafia.

Nighty night,

Last week I visited the South Granville location of Bellissima to pull a few outfits for photos for their blog (I am a contributor). One of the outfits I selected is this adorable white, floral-patterned Exetera top and these high-waisted Frank Lyman trousers. Together, these garments felt very clean, very chic and were giving me a “lady in Cannes” vibe, so I went with it. Coco Chanel was a lady of the Mediterranean sea and worked as my inspiration. Naturally, I started my accessorizing with my Chanel platforms. Then added a diamante camellia cocktail ring (Aldo), simple pearl earrings, elegant tortoiseshell style sunnies (Armani Exchange), and a vintage box snakeskin purse. A simple chignon and a slick of dark pink Chanel gloss completed the look I was going for. I felt the pictures came out so well (thanks to my handsome photographer George!), I wanted to share them with you as well. My Bellissima outfit posts will be on the Bellissima blog next week, be sure to check them out!

Sighh, a lovely afternoon spent pretending to be in France… But I shall be there soon enough! T-minus 6 weeks till take off!

This is one of my favourite types of outfits: casual and relaxed. It is my personal belief that loose, soft blouses are more attractive that tight tops, though I obviously do wear those as well. But in this outfit I feel the most me. (With the exception of my pink sequin Miu Mius.)
Wearing: Cecico blouse (found in a very random shop in SoHo, NYC), Fidelity waxed flared jeans, H&M mens’ leather belt, Aldo wedges.

A little while ago I mentioned that Jamie Hodge and I went down to Kits to shoot some photos, well, here they are! Jamie is ridiculous with a camera, and by ridiculous I mean amazing. Check out her other work here!

Wearing: Zara cape, plaid shawl from Winners, Wilfred wool dress, H&M tights, Aldo wedges, vintage locket necklace purchased from a street vendor in SoHo, NYC and sunnies from H&M.

These photos were taken a little while ago, maybe early February when even the sun couldn’t warm the chilly air. Being down at the beach on such a crisp, gorgeous day was glorious, and all the more fun to play and snap photos! Jamie and I experimented with some jumping photos (you know the ones, Vogue is infamous for the “casual jump-and-pose” photos). I haven’t seen any of those yet, though realistically my attempt was probably more akin to a flail than a jump-and-pose. I’m no Caroline Trentini, after all. (That’s a September Issue reference right there – the model who was jumping with the camera man, I believe his name was Bob.) Nonetheless, when said photos do surface, they’ll show up here right away.

And did I mention that Marie has a penchant for avant garde head gear?

Truth is, my little cone head was recently spayed. And she was such a good girl through the whole ordeal. Meal time was a challenge though, Marie couldn’t figure out how to maneuver her plastic cone around the food dish, so every morning we had breakfast together…

But the little miss is back to her happy self now! And sans head gear.

Best be off now, come visit us again soon,

This outfit is comfortable, comfortable, comfortable. (The boys have it so good.) When the rain comes I tend to feel more androgynous; your clothes suddenly have to be practical and for me that means items that can get wet and will layer well. I snapped these shots just as I was headed out the door to run a few errands, and get some air – I woke up sick this morning but even so I can’t stay in all day, I’d go nuts! Not feeling well usually means that I’m too lazy to do anything with my hair, hence the casual up-do, which I rather liked with the outfit in the end. To feel a little feminine I slicked on a few coats of a luxurious lipstick: Chantecaille’s “Super Nova.”

And out the door I go! (You’ll notice I still have those decorative little silver balls hanging in my window form before Christmas time, I still love them! But they will be coming down before March for sure. Which, btw is the month of my birthday. March 5 in fact, which means balloons and pretty paper and dressing up and clinking champagne glasses!)

Wearing: Zara leather bomber jacket, H&M scarf – Men’s department, vintage Liz Claiborne Sport shirt, Fidelity Denim cargo pants, H&M leather belt – Men’s department, Aldo wedges. Leather Zara clutch. Necklace from a bin at Macy’s years ago in NYC, link bangle from the bottom of my jewellry box. (I’m horrible at remembering where I pick these things up!)

I recently spent a day with Jamie Hodge taking photos on Kitsilano Beach, I can’t wait to post them! She’s in the editing process at the moment, but hopefully soon! Here are a couple she sent me as teasers:

The sun was shining brilliantly today so I haaadd to break out a Spring piece – this light, white jacket. I love white on the Summer time, also apparently in the Winter! With all it’s black detailing this jacket felt right for a sunny day in February. With thigh-high boots, naturally.

Wearing: Zara jacket, BCBG sweater vest, black turtle neck from years ago, brand unknown, Zara pleated leather skirt, H&M tights, Aldo leather boots, Fossil rose gold watch, aviators from an NYC street stand ($3). And that sweet kitten is Marie!

That’s why I’m wearing denim cut offs, obviously. Another day working from home! Today I am a woman of few blogging words as my pile of to-do’s continues to mount (happily), but I wanted to give you a little look at what my day-to-day at-home work outfits look like.

These fantastic and stupidly comfortable shoes are my latest purchase from Aldo, or rather, the Aldo outlet! They’re practically giving away merchandise at 50% off the lowest marked price right now. Nuts! That’s some feel-good shopping right there.

Wearing: Guess by Marciano hoops, Zara shirt, H&M vest/top, vintage denim cut offs, tights from Mum (Sears), Aldo wedges. Fossil rose gold watch, White enamel bangle from Macy’s. Sunnies from Ruby Tuesday in Whistler and my favourite pink Dior lip gloss from ages ago.

Okay, off like the computer-addicted techy I’ve become. (But I still want to be a cute techy.)

Monday morning, and my tasks for today are already piling up. When I have a lot to accomplish in a day, and am feeling the strain of one too many late nights last week, comfort is key. When I got dressed this morning, which resulted in a huuuuge heap of clothes on my bed – I know what I’ll be doing tonight – I could not figure out what to wear. I kept trying to work out tights and a mini with some sort of collared shirt when I finally gave up and put on this loose mens’ shirt and these worn in BCBG military style pants. And flats, of course. Minimal make up, save for my red Clinique lipstick and a few choice accessories to glamorize the look. I feel rather chic in this casual ensemble.

Wearing: H&M mens’ shirt, BCBG military style pants, Zara flats, Michael Kors tortoise-shell watch, brown leather chain bracelet from a random shop in SoHo, NYC, Aldo elephant ring, Gianni Chiarini leather carry-all, sunglasses from Ruby Tuesday in Whistler, brand unknown. Red Clinique lipstick.

I hope you have a fabulous Monday.

~ Popping bottles! ~

I rang in 2011 wearing a body con bandage dress in fire engine red. I had my hair done up for the first time in years and covered myself in obnoxiously sparkly accessories. That’s what I think NYE fashion is all about.

It started on Friday morning when I awoke after a miserable 2 hour sleep and ran to work, only to head back home after twenty minutes when I realized work was over staffed and I wasn’t needed. A great start to the NYE production: tired and slightly cranky. But the sun was out in full force and I decided, 2011 is going to be my year. 2010 was just a warm up. So I called up Suki’s salon and took advantage of a most generous blogger offer; a complimentary manicure and blow out. Actually, I upped the anti this new years and opted for a full on up-do, and padded the offer with some of my own cash. May as well go all out, right? Katie, one of my closest girl friends was still snuggled under the covers back at my apartment, (we did a pre-NYE celebration the night before with a DJ bash at a local club – bad girls!), but not for long. Off to Milestone’s for a quick brunch (I had a burger. Well, half a burger, I saved the rest for later), and then over to Suki’s Salon on South Granville for the ultimate in pampering. First a pedicure with the most delightful woman who painted my nails with a sparkly gun metal polish:

Then straight to Fifi, my stylist who was beyond fabulous: a British transplant with big curly blonde hair, pink reading glasses, pink lipstick and an enviable accent. Fifi bounced around my chair pinning curlers in and telling me stories of her move from Britain to our fair province. What a doll.

Next, an hour under that blow dryer that resembled a space helmet to set the curls.

Then it was time to remove the gazillion curlers from my head, and when we did, I’ve never seen a human more closely resemble a poodle. But Fifi knew what to do, she shook my hair out, lightly brushed the curls into place and proceeded to pin about 2 dozen bobby pins to my head.

~ Above: Pre-make up and a good hair toss with Fifi ~

The end result was amazing, I couldn’t believe it, after a year of growing my hair out, I actually had a real up-do!

Wearing: Rag & Bone cashmere cardi, Tommy Hilfiger button-up striped shirt, Fidelity denim.

~ Going all out, it was NYE after all! ~

What a fabulous evening, thanks to Suki’s for making me feel my very best! I’ll be back soon.

A little later in the night…

~ Taking the pins out and giving my curls a good shake, ahh that felt good! ~

~ 5 am fashion. Just keepin’ it real. ~

I made a few resolutions for the new year, one in particular to move east. Helllooo Toronto! When? I’m not sure yet. What did you wear on NYE, and what kind of resolutions do you plan to keep this year?
