It’s been a little while since I’ve done this. I practically feel rusty! This past week has been very busy and unfortunately a series of events left me quite uninspired. This afternoon I was putting a few things away in my downstairs storage locker on my way out to run errands when I noticed that I quite liked the effect of the slats of the lockers. So I snapped a few pictures, naturally I had my camera with me.

Wearing: H&M circle scarf, vintage fur vest, super soft Bilby & Moss white thermal Kyla hoodie (available at Oakridge Centre), white Dynamite tank (worn underneath), BCBG Max Azria pants and a suede bag from Aldo. I love mixing comfortable pieces like the hoodie with more fabulous pieces, like the fur vest; it makes casual dressing much more fun and interesting.
I did some running around town today: a return at Zara (unfortunately, I love their stuff, but now and again you find a piece that just isn’t made for you), then over to South Granville to visit JNBY where I finally put my gift certificate to use, and thank goodness because it expires on Wednesday. A quick trip to Purdy’s and then finally the grocery store. There’s something about shopping for dinner in fur and heels that makes it more fun. I think sometime I ought to do a photo shoot in the grocery store, particularly the produce department. I’ve got a fabulous shoot planned for tomorrow afternoon with Jamie Hodge, so please stay tuned for some more, um, professional, pictures! They put my own timed photos to shame.
That’s it for now, I see a certain kitten sniffing at my Purdy’s bag, gotta go!

Friday morning I awoke with a mission: do not let last night’s festivities affect today’s adventures! I feel as though I was rather successful. I don’t have a picture of my outfit for the day, so I’ll just tell you what I wore. A bright peachy orange dress-jumper from French Connection with white leather Zara flats and a sequin purse with a chain strap. And biiig shades to cover my tired eyes! (3 pairs of aviators, the only style of sunnies I like, for $10!) We hopped in a taxi to SoHo where we found a very quaint and charming restaurant serving breakfast sandwiches on fresh croissants and mimosas. Sooo good! After breakfast I was left on my own to shop around, and boy did I do that. First to TopShop where I found a great Rodarte-esque cardigan and 6″ platform heels with a great floral pattern. I also picked up a bracelet and three adorable old Vogue images, with mattes and frames from street vendors. A very successful shopping day! Afterwards I went along home to take a nap before heading out for a big dinner downtown. Here’s what I wore:
Matthew Williamson for H&M wrap dress, Guess by Marciano gold hoop earrings, Marc by Marc Jacobs clutch, Aldo elephant ring, Fossil watch, Stuart Weitzman nude pumps.
After dinner there was no hope of rallying for a second night out, off to the land of dreams back at the Ace.
- End of Day 3 -
Out and about in downtown Vancouver for lunch during this crazy heat wave, (bento boxes at Urban Sushi), and cooling drinks, (Murchies’ un-sweetened iced tea).

Wearing: H&M button-up shirt, B.B. Dakota ruffled skirt, Aldo wedges, Zara leather clutch, Forever 21 faux-jade necklace, vintage bracelet, vintage Ray Ban sunnies.
Xo SS
In the hall way wearing: T shirt from French Connection, skirt from Dynamite, Aldo wedges.
Got home quite late tonight and thought I’d capture my outfit! just a simple, casual look, but I was feeling a bit playful, even sassy, (me sassy?? Can you imagine?? ha), hence the t shirt. Then Marie begged me to be part of the photo shoot, so I let her. Just me and Marie hangin around my apartment on a Wednesday night! Time for a midnight snack!

I spent my Canada Day with my Mum. It was a glamorous day of shopping for a cat carrier, (pink), a watering can, (pink) and a frying pan. Though I did add the pink Kate Spade to this outfit and that made everything feel a little bit more fabulous. And of course I showed my patriotism with this ruffled red and white striped cardigan from H&M!
Wearing H&M striped cardi, white H&M tank, vintage denim cut offs, white leather Zara flats and Aldo elephant ring. Red nails by Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics.
Did you dress for Canada Day??

Last night what seemed like hundreds of fabulous Vancouver people joined together at the Renaissance Hotel’s 360 Room in support of YEF, Youth Education Farms, a non-profit founded by UBC grad Mr. Riley Mari. YEF’s mandate is to purchase farms in Swaziland to run as businesses that employ, nourish and finance the education of youth in the African country. The model is a brilliant example of sustainable philanthropy and I am grateful to Riley and his board for bringing it to our attention!
The goal of the event last night was to raise as much money as possible to build additional farms in Swaziland, YEF already has one working farm. I’m not sure how much the event raised, but I did see some wonderfully high figures below the items during the silent auction! I won’t also mention that a certain notorious Vancouver business man offered my date 1 million dollars to take me on a jet to vegas. Unfortunately I had to pass, I just can’t whore myself out in the name of philanthropy. It was all jokes, of course. But in seriousness, the event made for a fantastic evening of raising money, seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Congratulations to the YEF team for all of the good work you’re doing!
And because this is a fashion blog, here is what I wore to the YEF event!

Wearing BeBe top, B.B. Dakota skirt and Aldo heels. (Miu Miu look-a-like Aldo heels).
Below: Check out this fabulously fabulous woman, Joan Gusola, mother of Hayley and Katie Gusola! She has such an amazing taste for clothes, point-in-case: her shoes. It takes a fashionista with some serious cred to pull off such a fun look as this vintage Cheap and Chic Moschino soccer ball jacket. So appropriate with all the soccer frenzy going on right now. I love a woman with a sense of fashion humour! I hear she has an AMAZING vintage collection. I die.
And finally, one more fashion picture: 1 skirt, two girls!
Meghan Parks, representative for Alternative Apparel via Diverse Group and I both working the B.B. Dakota skirt! I must apologize to the lovely Miss Meghan for cutting our faces off, I was caught with horribly squinty eyes. Next time we shall take more pictures!
See you all Thursday night at the Guess for Marciano Event!!

Annndd continued where my computer decided to cut my video off… (who know’s why, maybe my little white mac is still peeved about my having spilt chocolate ice cream on her). What’s the LOKBP you ask? The League of Kickass Business People. The purpose of the league and the meet up events is to network, meet other people within your industry and maybe even make a connection that leads to business.
Last night’s event was featuring F Cancer as the guest and provided the attendees with the opportunity to create tag lines for an up coming campaign that F Cancer is putting together. We all divided up into 6 groups of 5 people and got to work trying to conceive fresh and bold ideas for the campaign. The best part of that was being thrown into a situation where you had to work with strangers, I was paired with 3 very smart and accomplished people, all quite a bit older than me. My 22 years must have seemed like peanuts, but I like to think I held my own. (And like with most of these business type meet up events, I was the youngest, though I was with a young group. But where is everybody?? All you kids fresh out of university, don’t you want to network?? The geek in me seriously loves these events.)
Working with business people who are already established was an interesting experience for me because each person definitely had a very different perspective and a unique take on the task at hand. It got me thinking about what it must be like in the corporate world when you are placed in an office full of intellectual strangers. Perhaps a tad intimidating, a bit challenging and maybe even a little daunting. But this only makes me more excited to join the nine-to-fivers! I want a challenge and a stimulating environment and I know I shall find myself in one quite soon.
Well that’s it for now readers, now I must go get fabulous in less than 30 minutes… I bet Mariah never has to deal with time constraints like this.

Out and on the prowl for all things pretty. A casual Friday afternoon outfit. Oversized black cashmere sweater, white Sirens jeans, B. Makowsky leather bag, cheapie sunnies from Bang-On and black Aldo leather wedges. Mmm cozy.
Well, today was my big day to accomplish all of the many things I have been putting off all week. The day started off quite productive with a breakfast run to Waves, (mmm the apple muffins there are so tasty), the usual collection of newspapers, (whilst I prefer the internet, I still have a love for traditional media), two blog posts, and even a walk over to the Vancouver View office in Yaletown to pink up a few very heavy boxes of the latest issue for an event I’m helping with in mid-May. Pretty productive right? Well after I got home from the VV trip, I decided I deserved a little break and immediately got caught up with too much reality TV. Which turned into an absolutely necessary trip downtown to see what the shops had to offer. Luckily for the plastic in my purse most of what’s in stores now does not appeal to me. (ENOUGH PLEATHER ALREADY! Where are the classic, moderately priced clothes that are made of good quality fabrics with care in construction?? Does that even exist? Do I have to start making my own clothes??)
It’s 9:15 pm and I haven’t even started on the laundry, or my homework… Good thing I’m taking a night off of being fabulous tonight, (meaning no dressing up and going out tonight!), though I am wearing a brilliantly subtle shade of Dior lipgloss that is littered with sparkles. I suppose that is rather glam, as is the new Vogue in my lap.
Okay, that’s it for now. Ta ta.
Shoes by Aldo. Fruit by the overall-ed, fruit-picking people of the Okanagan Valley. (Although I suppose oranges are international travellers, so we have a mix of Cali and BC produce here. Just to be precise.)
The StyleStruck Diet: Load up on fresh, local produce and of course fresh styles from your local retailers. Such as these hot pumps from Aldo. Then add a dash of bling, (conveniently, also from Aldo. No this is not paid advertising, but it could be… ; )). I’ve been dying for a pair of comfortable high heels, (don’t let the 5″ heel misguide you, these are seriously comfortable heels. I heard a rumor that certain shoemakers are over the platform. YOU’LL HAVE TO FIGHT ME FOR MY PLATFORMS. This pair is fabulous enough to be unique, but also simple enough that I think they could be understated.) The leopard booties were a steal at the Aldo outlet on Granville for only $30, I’d been eyeing the Louboutin leopard booties from a couple seasons ago and sadly had to choose rent over them, so these look-a-likes make me very happy! Another Happy Frugalista moment!
And on a bit more of a serious note, just like every other girl on this planet, I diet, or at least try and be conscious of what I’m eating. I have 2 major reasons to watch what I put in my mouth:
1. I have a bit of an affinity for body conscious dresses. Sadly my beloved Alfredo and the body-con silhouette just don’t go together.
2. I want the inside of me to be as healthy as it can possibly be. Feeling snacky? Fresh fruit is the best option I think, so tasty, so fresh and so good for you. And if knowing that you’re being healthy isn’t a good enough reason to stock up on nature’s candy, then know that fruit and vegetables have the power to give you that lovely glowing skin we all want. ($100 facial or $5 fruit, just sayin’)
That’s it for now. Haha I wonder how my neighbors feel about my blasting Spice Girls as I write this… I’m sure they love it as much as I do!

Perhaps it’s the beginnings of a StyleStruck zoo, but it’s definitely turning into a collection, little mini animals are everywhere! On bracelets, necklaces, rings…
Little elephants just playin. Apparently I have a real affinity for little elephants. (Elephant ring by Aldo) More of my little pets…
I always wanted a pet growing up, but because of where we lived, we could never have one. So each year for Christmas there would be some sort of little pet under the tree, be it a purple duffle bag with a fluffy bunny head on it when I was 5, a stuffed white kitty that purred when you grabbed it when I was 8 or these tiny ceramic figures when I was about 15. Now I’ve moved onto bedazzled wearable animals. This time last year it was a royal blue serpent that coiled around your wrist into an elegant and sparkly bracelet.

Nearly two weeks ago, (oops I’m a bit late with this post), I was a guest judge for the queer improv comedy group Tops & Bottoms. The group performs every Monday night at J Lounge on Davie, (at Bute St), and is a must see. These people are hilarious, one guy had me crying laughing with his drag impressions to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. You gotta catch this show, it’s free with a donation at the end. Here are some pics from my judging experience!

Two lovely ladies that came with me, Marion Young and Stephanie Walker! (I also brought my Mum : ))
That night I wore an H&M black sweater mini dress with embellished shoulders, a crystalized Aldo necklace and hot pink nails, (Essie polish) with 5″ black heels, which unfortunately you can’t see in the pictures, but they were fab.
Such a fun night, seriously, you gotta go!

Wearing: Vintage fur vest from Mum’s collection, Grey hoody taken from a boy, Sirens black studded tank, Zara bleached jeans, Michael Kors leather boots, Silver multi-chain necklace from Aldo and big big leather bag by Cole Haan. Smile by me.
This morning I woke up wishing I owned a chic pair of cashmere sweatpants that could be worn with heels. I wanted fierce comfort, but an over-sized boy hoody and comfy jeans did just fine! This was a perfect outfit for me today, I felt good in it from 10:30 am when I left my apartment til 6:30 pm when I finally got home.
You may have noticed that lately I have taken to wearing hardly any make up, or none at all. I am having an I-hate-eyeliner moment right now, and I’m not into gloss with fur, so minimalism is my new thing. Til next week anyways. : )
Today I took two busses and one sky train to Main St. to visit my friend Jennine Banks. Jennine has the most AMAZING apartment, as I showed you earlier in December, and can also cook up one yummy omelet. Today she made us green apple-caramelized onion-goat cheese omelets with fresh brewed coffee imported from Seattle. I brought the dessert: a fresh croissant and blueberry muffin. Mmmm. Catching up with friends is such a lovely day to spend the day.
Afterwards I ventured further up Main St. to Front and Co. where I scored some incredible vintage finds!!! = A bag of birthday presents for myself! My finds: 1-white rabbit fur vest with sheepskin collar, (PETA please do not hate on me. It’s all vintage, which in my opinion makes it better than buying new). 2-very fitted leather pants!! Which makes them borderline leggings, but styled like jeans, and without that awkward frontal area that leggings create. Which is why I hated leggings to begin with. Again people, leggings must be accompanied by a tunic or long sweater of some sort. Please adhere to this. 3-a loose knit black sweater that has thing amazing lace-up detail up the sides of the sweater that continues down the arms on the inside, so the lacing holds the sweater together. Très chic. Pictures coming soon, I can’t decide whether or not I will save these delicious items for my actual birthday, WHICH IS ON FRIDAY, FYI. Yayyy!! I shall be 22 years old. I may even do a retrospective post on my year being 21, after all, it was a huge year for me; StyleStruck came to be!
Ta-ta for now lovely people! And thank you very much for visiting my blog, you make me very happy!
