These photos were taken Friday morning just before I went to meet Rae for a LOVE + MARK’D meeting at Starbucks. Which by the way, I am largely over. Starbucks serves average coffee at outrageous prices in a could-be-described-as blah environment. There is nothing special about it at all, very much unlike my preferred spots Giovane Cafe at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and Bel Cafe at the Hotel Georgia. We met purposely to discuss a marketing campaign for the card brand and were thinking of creating one with an anti-social media element to it, being that aside from a few well-intended instagram photos, our product is meant for the traditional mail system and has nothing to do with communication 2.0. I am very proud of what we came up with after spending two plus hours sitting in the Robson at Thurlow Starbucks. I must give props to Rae for being such a major part of the creative process, it’s amazing how much more innovative you can be when it is not just you circling ideas around in your own head. We are just in the beginning stages of creating the imagery to support the campaign and we hope to launch in early June. I hope you’ll support us!

Lately I’ve been playing around with my new-ish short hair, this weekend with a small-barrel curling iron. I helped a man at Starbucks who couldn’t find the right size of lid for his tall cup and afterwards he said, “thanks Marilyn.” It kinda made my day.

On Tuesday night, April 24th J. Crew opened its Robson St. store doors to a veritable who’s who in the Vancouver fashion scene. The store opening party was jam packed full of fashionistas looking to meet the designers and PR team flown in from New York and check out the newest J. Crew offerings. My favorites are the leather ballet flats, which I intend to go back for come better weather. I had the pleasure of attending with Niki Blasina of A Haute Mess.

{ Images by Evaan Kheraj, c/o J. Crew }

{ I look a tad unimpressed here, but the evening was actually rather good! Particularly when you have Niki as your date. Wearing: Twik anorak (c/o Simons.ca), BCBG Max Azria dress, Zara belt, Nine West sandals, Clutches of Karma snakeskin clutch and a plethora of sparkling, golden bracelets – photo c/o Niki’s iPhone }

As it was raining that night, a rain coat worn as a dress seemed rather appropriate. I layered the anorak over my 21st birthday dress, close up here.

{ Wearing: Wilfred blazer, BCBG Max Azria shirt, Zara trousers, bag & sandals, H&M sunnies, necklace from Accessorize (London) }

This was Friday afternoon’s coffee meeting look at Thurlow and Robson. These sandals have been with me for a few years now, since spring 2009 when I first wore them with my Matthew Williamson for H&M peacock feather dress (seen here). I remember feeling so fabulous in that dress and these glimmering flats, actually, they’re still my go-to fabulous sandals. – And perhaps you’ve noticed that my hair is shorter, again. My last cut didn’t go as short as I’d like, though that was probably a good thing then – less shocking for me, so I had a barber cut a lot more off just this past week and I just love it. Hardly five minutes of maintenance and I’m out the door, that is my kind of hair.

With spring just around the corner (has it come? It’s hiding from us), I’ve started making changes at home to transition seasons.

{ Our Scottish wool blanket that covers the bed in winter is stored in our blanket basket, and these sequin Miu Mius have seen first light of the season just recently at the H&M Gets StyleStruck party }

{ Fresh flowers make our home feel pretty }

{ This chair has just recently been added to the bedroom from the office – I’ve finally caved and started using a more back-appropriate padded, wheely chair for my work }

{ Colourful clutches are becoming part of my regular wardrobe now as the months change, this pink Franchi sparkler was passed on to me from my sister }

{ Under the bed lie clear storage bins holding seasonal clothes – I’ve just switched winter for spring and it’s like I’ve gone shopping! There are so many pieces I’d forgotten about and am excited to see, like this heart printed BCBG Max Azria blouse }

{ Courtesy of The Cross Design, my side table has a new addition: this diamond-esque tea light holder }

{ Light lipgloss says spring to me, this is a recent purchase from Sephora held in what is meant to be a vase for the wall }

How do you transition into spring? Do you like your home to reflect the seasons?

Today, as I mentioned on Twitter, I am off to Vancouver Island to spend a little holiday time with my Pops. I layered up for the occasion; a cozy plaid shirt has never felt more appropriate. Ms. Spade was a favourite Christmas present from the man in my life, which might usually be Santa, but this year is my very generous BF. Santa, you better up your game.

Ohmyheavens I can not wait until NYE! It is my favourite festive occasion this year, mostly because of all the sparkle and the noise that ensues. I want to wear a silly hat and have confetti rain down on the party. I know I can at least count on a good glass of champagne. Or two. Or three. I plan to celebrate. Are you looking forward to the end of 2011? Big plans for 2012? Fill me in! ;) AND what are you WEARING?!

Shot just outside of Benny’s on Broadway. We headed there for breakfast this morning, having been there before a couple times with friends. I brought my computer to get a little work done and was sorely disappointed to find out there are no outlets at Benny’s. I also learned that around 11 it is a hub for the younger, more rambunctious set. Not ideal for working. Craving Giovane Cafe right now… perhaps I’ll stop by there later today.

After watching two complete seasons of Mad Men, I’ve decided to make like Betty Draper and don red lipstick. I’m going to wear it everyday for a week and see if anything changes, after all, it’s a real departure from the usual gloss or nude lipstick I wear. Perhaps it’ll give me a new found confidence to do wild things. I shall report. One thing I know so far is, with red lipstick on your make up time is cut way down in the morning, red lips = minimal eye make up. My lipstick of choice (Clinique All Heart) is more of a cherry red, and seems to coming off as a pinkish colour in these photos, but I promise you, it is R-E-D and my boyfriend is terrified of it.

Last Wednesday night The Bay hosted an intimate sit down with Jeanne Beker in the Platinum Suite at The Room before her public appearance. Being a little late I had to slip in as nonchalantly as possible, and try to contain my excitement at getting to have a real sit-down conversation with the woman I have admired and watched interview the fashion greats for the past ten years. Jeanne is just as fabulous and as personable as you would expect. We were given the opportunity to ask her whatever we liked. I really enjoyed that her answers were direct and thoughtful and she was refreshingly honest about the industry. One of my questions was: “how do you start getting dressed in the morning?” Jeanne said she starts with pretty intimates and some fab heels – always heels. (I was asking in reference to Jenna Lyons saying she dresses starting with shoes that her son picks out for her. Cute!) A little way along our 45 minutes with Jeanne, Lisa of Solo Lisa asked her what was in her baghere it is!

That’s me asking what kind of lipstick she has, the answer: (at the 0:42 mark) No. 25, Vendome

{Wearing: Zara coat, Bedo blouse, BCBG Max Azria pants, necklace from Macy’s, Joe Fresh nail colour. We shall assume Jeanne was wearing pieces from her Edit collection!}

Read more about Jeanne’s visit to Vancouver and The Bay on B Insider, The Bay’s blog! Major (may-jor) thanks to the ladies in charge at The Bay who put this together!

{Wearing: French Connection sweater (worn as dress), BCBG shirt (last seen here), H&M tights, Rockport boots, Zara belt and Gianni Chiarini bag. Stella & Dot rings}

En route to style the Mavi windows this morning I was left to my own devices to capture a photo of my outfit, so here I am, thanks to my point-and-shoot and its trusty timer. (The photographer had an early morning at work today.) Below is the first window, completed. The second is now done too - I tweeted a picture! My mannequins will be up for all of October, tweet me if you pass them! I’d love to know what you think!

Hellooo London! Musings of a Vancouver fashion blogger in Europe – Part II

The AM:

We woke up bright and early this morning to head to Harvey Nichols for breakfast. Harvey Nichols would be like a Nordstroms or Barney’s I think in North American comparative terms, and it was has a fabulously cool cafe on it’s top floor. I tweeted about it here!.

{ Waiting for our train, wearing: Brooks Brothers chambray shirt, H&M jeans, Zara leather studded belt, Zara flats, Frances Cobiasia leather bag and Fossil watch. All pictures thus far are of the touristy variety, that’s because I am a tourist, though I’m going to try and go for the more natural poses soon once all the excitement wears off }

{ Vanilla latte, fresh croissant with a mini raspberry jam and branded butter and traditional Scottish porridge with honey, sliced almonds and brown sugar – the iPad has been a fantastic help on our journey, if you go traveling I highly recommend getting one }

{ A Harrods shop window – you can literally get anything and everything at Harrods }

Harrods (a British institution), was quite the adventure. Up, down, across, back down – you can easily get lost in their many departments and five floors. We wandered through designer shoes (there’s a whole section dedicated to the most expensive shoes you can imagine, complete with signs that say “Do not touch”), women’s designer clothes, women’s contemporary clothes (where I picked up a skinny fuschia leather belt by Ted Baker), the animal kingdom, the fur department, kids clothes (mini Dior anyone?), lighting, furniture, stationery (found a set of beautiful sunny yellow note cards and envelopes, as well as a set of white leather coasters stamped with London’s skyline), musical instruments, the list goes on and on. We eventually found our way to the Harrods gift shop where I couldn’t resist one of those plastic-coated tote bags covered in iconic British and Harrods pictures. It was quite the ambitious undertaking for our first real day in London.

The PM:

For dinner and drinks we ventured by metro over to Islington which is in the north of London. Once out and about I realized that I really looked like a tourist – the Brits wear a lot of black.

{ Wearing BCBG Max Azria blouse, H&M shorts, Zara flats, Aldo fish ring and Pierre Cardin snakeskin bag, seen in my last post! }

Tomorrow I’ll head over to St. Paul’s Cathedral for the Sunday morning service (I like to do these things every now and again), then meet up with my travel buddy, Marisa, to visit the Imperial War Museum and then later stroll along the streets of Nottinghill. Monday we pack up for a couple days to visit the English countryside. I’m so looking forward to relaxing in the Cotswalds!

Happy FRIDAY lovelies! TGIF. I can’t say it enough. I have a big dinner this weekend, and I know exactly what I’m going to wear… white wrap DVF dress with those new Miu Miu pumps, maybe a cute braided hair do… a few glasses of wine (I wear those well).

Have a FABULOUS weekend!

I’ve made a few changes to Marie’s and my club house, namely moving these fantastic mirrored tables to either side of the couch, and finally properly putting up pictures. I’m really enjoying this new set up, as is Marie. As you can see, she even gets to have her little house in the living room. (We’ve already been over this.) My apartment isn’t that girly, is it? Well, I do have pink toilet paper, and pink fluffs and high heels on my shower curtain.

Wearing: BCBG shirt, H&M shorts, Manolo Blahnik leopard flats, Kate Spade tote, Armani Exchange sun glasses, jewelry unknown.

Pictures brought to you by my “other” camera, the camera that lives in the back of my desk drawer and absolutely only comes out for emergencies when the Nikon is having issues. Oh well, if it means I can show you the latest of my outfits, then I am a happy blogger.

Au revoir!

Spring, are you here yet?? I only just got this BCBG MAX AZRIA vest last week (as a result of my BCBG Max Azria spring 2011 collection preview – many thanks!!), but am already OBSESSED with it. Last Thursday I wore it to the office with a white shirt and jeans, I have plans to pair it with a fitted BCBG Max Azria red dress and today it felt right with this lovely Jason Wu S/S 2010 silk pleated skirt (the skirt that was originally $1635 – obviously NOT what I paid).

Wearing: BCBG Max Azria vest, vintage skinny gold leather belt, Jason Wu skirt, Poetic Licence heels, red OPI manicure & pedicure.

I’ve been learning how to better use my camera! These pictures are the result. My cousin was in town visiting this weekend and he informed me that I’m likely using 5% (or less) of my cameras capabilities. Naturally.

As Sunday night comes to a close, I’m reflecting on what a lovely weekend it has been thus far: Friday night was spent at Goldfish celebrating a girlfriend’s 25th birthday and Saturday night resulted in a delicious dinner at a local Greek restaurant, for which I dressed the part: a white JNBY shirt dress (pictures coming soon!) and towering blue suede heels.

Tonight I did my taxes. But at least I did my taxes while wearing Prada.

Tomorrow is the dreaded Monday, find a way to make it special. Perhaps a favourite coffee in the morning, slicking on a deliciously bright lipstick or just checking in on your favorite blog on the way to work for inspiration.

p.s. APRIL 6th IS THE GUESS PARTY ON ROBSON ST. – MAKE SURE YOU RSVP!

I could and would bring every piece from the BCBG Max Azria spring collection home with me. Every single piece is lust-worthy, from the dove grey faux leather pants, to the sculptural white blazer to the oodles of patterns: stripes, feathers, snakeskin, tie dyes, florals and more. I. Die. And I got to try a lot of it on, life being a blogger really ain’t so bad. My favourite pieces and outfits below: (In an effort to be kind, please do picture me wearing these clothes with a tan, neutrals do look oh-so much better with a tan. Try.)

You know how I love neutrals! I am seriously coveting the grey faux leather pants (the fit was amazing), and the navy and white striped body con dress. That dress was seriously man-friendly. I also want the snakeskin printed vest I had on over it, how hot would that vest look with a loose white tee and jeans, or better yet, denim cut offs and some fabulous sandals. Corked platform sandals. I am seriously dying for those warm summer nights where you sit on patios feeling gorgeous thanks to your (natural) tan, flirty summer clothes and a few glasses of sangria. *Sigh*

Though, I suppose the months leading up to those kinds of nights give us fashion-lovers plenty of time to plan our summer wardrobes (because we know that while it may look like we just effortlessly threw on that silk blouse with that bandage “power” skirt and casually slid into those leather mules – partly because our hair is nicely tousled from a day at the beach – that that look took planning and effort. We just won’t tell our dates that, now will we.)

Til then, we have our bronzer and turtle necks.

Find all of these fabulous fashions at your local BCBG Max Azria store. I particularly like the Robson St. location where the girls are just dolls and so helpful. Shopping is fun again! Anna would be so proud. Major thanks to BCBG Max Azria for this delightful experience!

The sun was shining brilliantly today so I haaadd to break out a Spring piece – this light, white jacket. I love white on the Summer time, also apparently in the Winter! With all it’s black detailing this jacket felt right for a sunny day in February. With thigh-high boots, naturally.

Wearing: Zara jacket, BCBG sweater vest, black turtle neck from years ago, brand unknown, Zara pleated leather skirt, H&M tights, Aldo leather boots, Fossil rose gold watch, aviators from an NYC street stand ($3). And that sweet kitten is Marie!

Monday morning, and my tasks for today are already piling up. When I have a lot to accomplish in a day, and am feeling the strain of one too many late nights last week, comfort is key. When I got dressed this morning, which resulted in a huuuuge heap of clothes on my bed – I know what I’ll be doing tonight – I could not figure out what to wear. I kept trying to work out tights and a mini with some sort of collared shirt when I finally gave up and put on this loose mens’ shirt and these worn in BCBG military style pants. And flats, of course. Minimal make up, save for my red Clinique lipstick and a few choice accessories to glamorize the look. I feel rather chic in this casual ensemble.

Wearing: H&M mens’ shirt, BCBG military style pants, Zara flats, Michael Kors tortoise-shell watch, brown leather chain bracelet from a random shop in SoHo, NYC, Aldo elephant ring, Gianni Chiarini leather carry-all, sunglasses from Ruby Tuesday in Whistler, brand unknown. Red Clinique lipstick.

I hope you have a fabulous Monday.

~ Popping bottles! ~

I rang in 2011 wearing a body con bandage dress in fire engine red. I had my hair done up for the first time in years and covered myself in obnoxiously sparkly accessories. That’s what I think NYE fashion is all about.

It started on Friday morning when I awoke after a miserable 2 hour sleep and ran to work, only to head back home after twenty minutes when I realized work was over staffed and I wasn’t needed. A great start to the NYE production: tired and slightly cranky. But the sun was out in full force and I decided, 2011 is going to be my year. 2010 was just a warm up. So I called up Suki’s salon and took advantage of a most generous blogger offer; a complimentary manicure and blow out. Actually, I upped the anti this new years and opted for a full on up-do, and padded the offer with some of my own cash. May as well go all out, right? Katie, one of my closest girl friends was still snuggled under the covers back at my apartment, (we did a pre-NYE celebration the night before with a DJ bash at a local club – bad girls!), but not for long. Off to Milestone’s for a quick brunch (I had a burger. Well, half a burger, I saved the rest for later), and then over to Suki’s Salon on South Granville for the ultimate in pampering. First a pedicure with the most delightful woman who painted my nails with a sparkly gun metal polish:

Then straight to Fifi, my stylist who was beyond fabulous: a British transplant with big curly blonde hair, pink reading glasses, pink lipstick and an enviable accent. Fifi bounced around my chair pinning curlers in and telling me stories of her move from Britain to our fair province. What a doll.

Next, an hour under that blow dryer that resembled a space helmet to set the curls.

Then it was time to remove the gazillion curlers from my head, and when we did, I’ve never seen a human more closely resemble a poodle. But Fifi knew what to do, she shook my hair out, lightly brushed the curls into place and proceeded to pin about 2 dozen bobby pins to my head.

~ Above: Pre-make up and a good hair toss with Fifi ~

The end result was amazing, I couldn’t believe it, after a year of growing my hair out, I actually had a real up-do!

Wearing: Rag & Bone cashmere cardi, Tommy Hilfiger button-up striped shirt, Fidelity denim.

~ Going all out, it was NYE after all! ~

What a fabulous evening, thanks to Suki’s for making me feel my very best! I’ll be back soon.

A little later in the night…

~ Taking the pins out and giving my curls a good shake, ahh that felt good! ~

~ 5 am fashion. Just keepin’ it real. ~

I made a few resolutions for the new year, one in particular to move east. Helllooo Toronto! When? I’m not sure yet. What did you wear on NYE, and what kind of resolutions do you plan to keep this year?
