Some days you just want to say #$&% to the tight waist bands, fitted jeans and high, high heels. Those days are often Sundays. Sundays bring no fashion events, no meetings, just coffee strolls and brunch dates. And I want to enjoy brunch with my comfortable pants on, like these Fidelity cargo pants. I know you hear me when I say there is nothing worse than digging into your delicious eggs benny and mimosa only to feel like you’re about to pop the button on your trousers. You know that post-brunch shift in your chair thing, when you’re trying to get comfortable but your constricting skirt won’t allow it? Yeah, that’s the worst. We’re spending Sunday morning in Blaine as a result of an over-nighter birthday party bash at a beach house. And these pants are coming with me!
Happy brunch-day Sunday!
P.S. Many thanks to Poshlocket for the bangles, I am absolutely in LOVE with them, as seen here and here on instagram. Get yours here!

It’s not often my boyfriend and I find ourselves with a day when neither of us are tied to obligations. When we do, we savor it spending the day doing exactly what we please.
Morning started with a leisurely sleep in. After a medium roast coffee (well-doctored with cream, sugar and lots of cinnamon) and a long, sunny stroll down Coal Harbour’s sea wall (Aritzia’s cowichan sweaters are perfect for brisk Vancouver mornings), we pulled on proper clothes and took ourselves for the most delicious, fresh bagels in Vancouver. Bagels led to picking up groceries at Costco, and a butter chicken sauce I can’t wait to try. I had George snap a few shots of my love for gingham and then we made our way home to curl up on the couch with a sweet movie: WALL-E. (Just loved it.) As I’m sure many of you know, Mad Men season 5 premiered last night, so the rest of our evening was spoken for: having dinner (red wine and a bocconcini, tomato, basil pizza) while we enjoyed the antics of Don Draper’s world. A perfect Sunday.
You may have noticed a lack of jewelry, save for my nameplate necklace. While I adore the right amount of decoration, there are times when piling on the baubles and jewels just irritates me. Sometimes you want to go about your business without your wrists clinking and bangling about you. Sometimes, you just need to be free of all that entanglement, you know? I am most certainly one of those girls who once through the door, removes all jewelry, cinching belts and constricting garments. Clothes are fabulous, but so is my monogrammed Four Seasons hotel robe.

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of chatting with (more like taking at, at some points – thank you to all the students for listening to me!) Lyndi Barrett’s Fashion PR class at Blance Macdonald about the business of blogging. And my, was there a lot to share. I had wondered if I might run out of things to say, but I certainly did not! I had a fabulous time talking blog-shop and hope that some of what I shared was helpful to future bloggers! (Two great articles referenced yesterday are these: here and here.)
Above: Looking through my notes – I included a list of to-dos for killing it at fashion week from Anna Dello Russo, you can see it here! It’s quite funny, you ought to give it a read!

Monday: I am happily running around town making card deliveries, and feeling a bit like an flight attendant with this vintage scarf.
A few days ago I made a dash up to Barefoot Contessa on Main St. wearing this same shirt, I’m having a bit of a white shirt moment right now. How do you style yours??

I mentioned in my last post that Sunday was to be a relaxing festive kind of day, and it was! We started with brunch in Yaletown and a little downtown shopping at my favorite Homer St. home stores, followed by the Santa Claus Parade and a midday pick me up (coffee and Bailey’s) at the beyond fabulous Hawksworth restaurant lounge. Sunday pretty much made other days feel bad… Except for today, because today is Giveaway Monday!
Thanks to Barefoot Contessa I am giving away this C.C Exclusives angora beret! Well, not this exact one, you get to have a new one! ;) Oh, and there are two colors for you to choose from! This taupe or a soft grey! Hmm, which color would look better with your fabulous winter coat??
TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY: comment (above) on this post that you want to add a beret to winter fashion-arsenal (your style is killer!) and tweet ”I want to win an adorable beret from @so_lovely & @StyleStruck! http://bit.ly/s7fdes” Berets are so French and so cute.
Pssst! For an extra chance at winning like StyleStruck.ca and Barefoot Contessa on Facebook! (Because you can never have enough extra chances at winning! Much like how you can never have enough diamonds.)
The giveaway goes until Thursday and ends at 4 pm PST.
P.P.S. The lovely Cassandra of Chanel & Caviar posted the sweetest write up about me and LOVE + MARK’D today! Thank you Cassy!

This weekend was one of those perfectly festive couple of days that really get you in the mood for the current season. The leaves here have been turning from green to yellow, orange and red (as noted in my recent fall frolic), and the pumpkin spice lattes are out in force, but it’s getting friends together over cupcakes, tea and a very festively decorated table that makes me feel like a season is in full swing.
SATURDAY I held a LOVE + MARK’D pop-up shop/tea party! Pictures of my home, pre-party:
{Apple cinnamon muffins – I had one a bit early… mmm}
{A completed order of Thank You cards ready for pick-up}
It was a wonderful day of chatting stationery, fashion and business ventures! Thank you to all the ladies (and gents) who came and took home their favorite cards! I loved having you over.
SUNDAY boyfriend and I ventured out to a giant pumpkin patch, complete with animals!
{Naturally I took my hot dog with me out into the field}
{Wearing: Talula jacket, New Look white shirt (London), Fidelity denim, Juicy Couture boots, Armani sunnies, necklace was a gift in part from my Mum and her twin, my Auntie J}
Do you have your pumpkin yet? And what’s your costume plan this year: something creative? Or maybe one of our fashion favorites?? (Two years ago I paraded around as Karl.)

Mmmm, it was so good. The morning we left Stratford-upon-Avon we visited a very darling bakery called Box Brownie, which understandably, is famous for their delicious brownies. However, I was too tempted by this lemon tart to pass it up! Yumm.
{ In front of the birth place of Shakespeare – this house is from the early 1500s! I figured I’d make myself really stand out as a tourist with this very casually British umbrella }
{ Shortly after we boarded our train back to London! Just before leaving Vancouver on the morning we flew out, I was having a freak out moment about packing my carry-on bag. I brought my leather carry-all [seen in the above photo], but deemed it not big enough. [A girl's got a lot of stuff to fly with!] This MK canvas bag has come in very handy over the trip! Canvas bag gifted as a swag bag at the MK store opening }
{ Wearing: Zara sweater, Brooks Brothers linen blouse, Fidelity denim, Zara flats, Michael Kors watch, leather & gold bracelet from a stand in SoHo, NYC }
Oh, and did I mention that last Sunday I split my pants? It was my worst day of this trip so far, after a rather miserable day out I get back to the hotel, sit down on the bed and cross my leg under me. Riiiipp. My pants ripped right in the place where you wouldn’t want them to… So train time was mend time with my new 1-pound mending kit!
It’s Saturday night now, about 1:15 am here in London and time for bed! We had a most wonderful dinner at Beach Blanket Babylon in Notting Hill! And then of course I had a potent cosmo in the lounge afterwards, I have made it my mission to try a cosmo in every city I visit. So far, tonight’s at Babylon and the cosmo at Vancouver‘s Pacific Rim Fairmont Lobby Lounge are neck and neck for my top favourites. That said, I never did have one at The Plaza. So I shall have to for a fair comparison. ; )
I recently was given the pleasure of a guided tour through the many fabulously merchandised sections of our Brooks Brothers store on Alberni St. Also home to Hermes, Tiffany’s, Louis Vuitton, Betsey Johnson, Blu Bird, Coast, Italian Kitchen and Agent Provocateur, Alberni St. has certainly become a shopping destination of the rich and famous young. I found myself happily wandering around many racks and shelves of gorgeous, luxurious polos, supima cotton shirts, thick cable-knit jumpers and rich leathers, all perfectly befitting the lady who lunches. Brooks Brothers is my traditionally classic, preppy heaven.
Absolutely dying for the weekender bag on the left. Thick canvas with genuine leather trimming… How fabulous for a few days away in the Cotswalds (English country side). Oh wait, I’m doing that come July. Perhaps I need this bag. Need. Below, a colorful assortment of ladies’ polos. Want. Further below, fine perfumes and creams.

I’d title the above pictures, “things men should wear, and how they should wear it.”

Two above: Stripes go to sea. I really appreciated all the effort put into the styling and merchandising of the store. And I would take up golf purely so that I could own and tote around this lovely golf bag, above. Gold detailing is the new way to my heart.
And now, for a few of my Brooks Brother obsessions:
A perfectly classic ostrich skin tote. Below: a little boys’ chambray shirt in a size L… I bet I could fit into that…
{ I’m wearing: white shrunken Zara jacket, H&M tank, Fidelity denim, Stella & Dot rings }

I see the crew neck sweater (two above) paired with white denim shorts for boat trips, and the sumptuous cable knit V-neck pull over paired with denim cut offs and little white sneakers. And big Ray Bans. Prepster for days.
Snapped in the dressing room! Why hello little boys’ size L chambray shirt! This one came home with me, as did a white linen little boys’ shirt. They’re the perfect boyfriend style button-ups! And those white buttons? Not plastic as we’ve come to expect on our shirts ladies, but real mother of pearl. It’s all in the details!

Up, up above in the land of feminine flats… a soft pair of cognac colored leather slip ons. So chic. Gold buttons adoring mens’ suit jackets (who doesn’t love a man in a navy blazer with gold buttons? So presidential!) and the perfect stripey mens’ sweater. Imagine a tall dark and handsome in this, dark denim and aviators. Delicious.
All in all I would say my visit to Brooks Brothers was positively dreamy and perfectly timed, seeing as I’ll be spending this weekend on my Dad’s boat on the Sunshine Coast, and traveling to Europe in July. My new white linen shirt will be tres parfait in Bordeaux! (Boating weekend pictures to come Monday! You better believe I pulled out my Lilly Pulitzer nautical white and navy striped sweater, complete with detailed gold buttons and a roll-down collar. Now to get myself some Sperry Topsiders…)
Oh, and ladies and gents, don’t forget! It’s almost Father’s Day, and if you need a gift, Brooks Brothers is currently offering a sale on their beautiful silk ties! Not to mention that I’m sure your Pappa would adore a new cardigan or polo. Happy Shopping!

Adorable ladies' etiquette books. I chose the "How to be a Lady" book. I plan to learn how to properly set a table and find out when pearls are and are not acceptable. Evidently being a lady calls for a lot of rules.

Wearing: Wilfred blazer, Zara V-neck sweater, Zara leather studded belt, Fidelity denim, red suede *rain* boots – brand unknown. (I’d like to tell you they’re Balmain, but…)
This is what I wore this evening to the Style Salon event at the Shangri-La. I was going for sophisticated, casual chic, all in the spirit of dressing for Paris. You see, I’ve been doing my research to understand the key elements of Parisian style, all of which add up to impossible chicness. Here are a few things I have learned:
1. Clothes are meant to flatter the body, not suck the body in, meaning, the French do not wear their jeans plastered to their legs as North Americans tend to do (good-bye spandex-cotton blend!).
2. Great style has a classic element to it, particularly the silhouette. Think tailored clothes that fit well, no matter what the trend. Maxi skirts? Hits you at the right spot and flatters the waist. Boxy, menswear inspired wool coats? Worn in proportion to the body – proportionate collar, pockets, cuff detailing – so that the body is flattered and not disguised.
3. Good quality fabrics and detailing really lends itself to the overall “polished-ness” of a look, and certainly extends the life of your garments.
4. Style is how you wear your clothes, not looking for a stand out piece that will wear you. What I mean is, styling your clothes the way you feel they look best, perhaps you like your blazer sleeves rolled up with the collar popped, or wearing your sweaters tucked into skirts rather than worn out, or adding a wild dash of color to your outfit through your sock choice, a la Jeremy Szafron! (Video chat to come!)
I am over the notion that have personal style means you are the one that stands out most in a room for your outlandish look. Great style is in the subtleties, in the nuances and most certainly in the way you carry yourself and go through life. Ever think about what the style of your life is? What do you eat? How do you eat? Go out, or grocery shop and cook in? What is your mode of transportation? How do you feed your brain, as in, do you read and what do you read? What stimulates your mind? Are you aware of how what you say and how you say it will shape the perception that people have of you? Are you organized? Do you act calmly, or are you in a state of chaos? What does your home look like, and most importantly, what kind of company do you keep? Lately I’ve been feeling very aware of the style of ones life, rather than just the style of their clothes. I think the full package is the most interesting. Wow, I digress. I must be going through some sort of self-discovery type phase. Speaking to my style, I am willing to note that I now think my apartment looks like one giant tea-party – it’s too girlie and my decorative details are too prim and petite. I need to scruff it up quite a bit.
I was going to take a good number of pictures this evening, however, there was a photographer present and so I’ll let her pictures do the work, rather than mine.
Night!

Oh, and click here for an interesting look at W Magazine!
This past weekend my man and I ventured down to Seattle for a little get-away, and a little shopping. Between enjoying deliciously flavored coffees from the original Pike Place Starbucks (mmm cinnamon dolce latte that I couldn’t keep off my new white blouse), sight seeing and changing shoes (I brought 5 pairs for two days), I found a few treats to bring home:
A “candied cherry” scented L’Occitane candle. It’s official, I am obsessed with scented candles. As seen here, and here.
My cognac-colored leather passport holder by Danier. Not new, but it was the first time in many months that I was able to use it.
A new, gloriously sparkly, Chanel lipgloss from Macy’s. The last time I purchased a Chanel gloss was last August from the Chanel on 5th Ave in Manhattan (wearing my Chanel sandals, of course). That one lasted until this past week, so of course I was due for a new one. Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer #119. Be warned: give a man a kiss while wearing this, and he shall be left covered in sparkles, long after he wipes it off. Hehe.
I mentioned to boyfriend while eyeing a pair snakeskin peep-toe Christian Louboutin pumps in Barney’s that I adored a snakeskin shoe, and look what he picked out later that day: snakeskin printed leather Via Spigas. Fabulous taste. I wore them to dinner later on at the waterfront with a pinkish, nude-colored mesh skirt and white military inspired blouse. (Below)
Happy feet! And this was the only picture I got of this outfit (skirt and blouse by Express). Very sadly we forgot to have our picture snapped at dinner Sunday evening, and he did look so handsome, shame.
Strawberry gelato in Pike Place as a refreshing pick-me-up mid-shop. Wearing: Tommy Hilfiger blouse, Fidelity denim, Zara flats and Kate Spade tote. Fossil watch.
This triple-strand of green beads from Macy’s for a knock-your-socks-off price of $8. I love sales. And toting Kate around (my yellow tote), that also made/makes me happy.
The entire trip was wonderful and delightful and I can’t wait to run off to someplace fabulous again. Speaking of which, I’ve just booked an international flight. I’ll be blogging to you direct from Paris this summer! Je dois apprendre le français rapidement!
Au revoir mes belles!

Like spend hours on end sitting in a salon chair, letting dye do it’s job, or enduring the windy blow dryer in pursuit of the perfect accidentally big and fabulous hair. (It’s certainly not in vogue at the moment to show effort towards your hair – just look at the all the New York scenesters, nothing more than a pulled back chignon, or a casual side part and naturally dried hair. But that look or attitude never was very me. Remember my NYE ‘do? Also courtesy of the fantastic Suki’s Salon!)
But this was my day (the day of the Guess event) and you know I went for? Texas style hair. I wanted big and bouncy, and Suki’s gave me just that! The day prior I also spent time at Suki’s having highlights done. Oh, the maintenance involved in being a woman. This post will document my wonderfully spa-like experience at our downtown Suki’s. (Pictures courtesy of my BlackBerry.)
Day 1 at Suki’s: The Highlights – please don’t judge me too harshly on the below photo… I myself find it a little alarming. It is me sans make up and shame. Let’s preface this though with the finished result:
I rather enjoy getting my hair done, with the right colorist and stylist it can be quite relaxing. My colorist, Felicia, does wonders on my hair, I always leave feeling fresh and perky – bright blonde will do that for you. (Above wearing: Silk blouse from (212) in Gastown and Zara skirt.)
Day 2 at Suki’s: The Blowout

Ooooh, gettin close to Texas style!
Achieved. And now, let’s bring it down a little to Vancouver style…
Guess party here I come! Wearing: Mossimo trench, Old Navy cardigan and Fidelity denim with my Kate Spade tote.
With the Guess ladies in from Toronto and my fellow hosts! Alicia Fashionista, A Haute Mess and The Anthology. All outfits by Guess!

With Vancouver tweeters and friends, Marisa, Christine and Liz.
A big giant thank you to Suki’s for giving me the ultimate hair experience! I shall be back soon!

Yep, one take. No editing of my mumbling or fast-talking, or even my funny little speech-isms, like the “uh-mazing” I dropped a few times. Oh, and I sure do love me some fabulous color-blocked heels:

Wearing: Delicious silk blouse from 212 in Gastown, black waxed Fidelity denim, Zara strappy sandals and necklace from Blue Ruby. My lip color is a mix of my two favourite pink Dior lipsticks: #361 “pink baiser” and #475 “pink preview.”
Now, let’s talk FABULOUS FURNISHING. As you’ve just seen, I am in the process of re-upholstering my vanity style bench/large stool (I’m not sure how to categorize the piece). Here is said piece, in all it’s ugly, “before-picture” glory:
The more I see what can be done to this thing, I more I am repulsed by its current state. I sure am excited to have it all finished and lovely, sitting in my living room as a show-piece! And it’ll all be thanks to The Cross! As I mentioned, I got the chance to flip through the fabric books at The Cross, here are a few of the fabrics I loved:

I am in love with the pink and beige fabric, how gorgeous is that?? And just above is the selection of velvets, so luxurious.
Want to get your upholster on too? The Cross is holding their upholstery event starting April 1st and will be offering 20% off their fabrics and services! In the mean time, check out their site and check back with me as I go through the upholstery process! (My first time, oh, I feel like such an adult.) Big thank you to Megan and Joanna of The Cross for their help in this project!

This is one of my favourite types of outfits: casual and relaxed. It is my personal belief that loose, soft blouses are more attractive that tight tops, though I obviously do wear those as well. But in this outfit I feel the most me. (With the exception of my pink sequin Miu Mius.)

Wearing: Cecico blouse (found in a very random shop in SoHo, NYC), Fidelity waxed flared jeans, H&M mens’ leather belt, Aldo wedges.
Xo SS
This outfit is comfortable, comfortable, comfortable. (The boys have it so good.) When the rain comes I tend to feel more androgynous; your clothes suddenly have to be practical and for me that means items that can get wet and will layer well. I snapped these shots just as I was headed out the door to run a few errands, and get some air – I woke up sick this morning but even so I can’t stay in all day, I’d go nuts! Not feeling well usually means that I’m too lazy to do anything with my hair, hence the casual up-do, which I rather liked with the outfit in the end. To feel a little feminine I slicked on a few coats of a luxurious lipstick: Chantecaille’s “Super Nova.”

And out the door I go! (You’ll notice I still have those decorative little silver balls hanging in my window form before Christmas time, I still love them! But they will be coming down before March for sure. Which, btw is the month of my birthday. March 5 in fact, which means balloons and pretty paper and dressing up and clinking champagne glasses!)
Wearing: Zara leather bomber jacket, H&M scarf – Men’s department, vintage Liz Claiborne Sport shirt, Fidelity Denim cargo pants, H&M leather belt – Men’s department, Aldo wedges. Leather Zara clutch. Necklace from a bin at Macy’s years ago in NYC, link bangle from the bottom of my jewellry box. (I’m horrible at remembering where I pick these things up!)
I recently spent a day with Jamie Hodge taking photos on Kitsilano Beach, I can’t wait to post them! She’s in the editing process at the moment, but hopefully soon! Here are a couple she sent me as teasers:

Wearing: Simply Irresistible Leopard print sweater, Dynamite white tank, studded leather belt from Zara, Fidelity black waxed denim, Steve Madden patent leather buckled boots. Fossil watch, vintage ring from NYC. Pink MAC lip colour seen here.
This morning I woke up to the smell of fresh sheets, it’s one of my favourite things ever. Last night I crawled into bed and lit a delicious Soapology candle, with a scent called “morning dew,” making my room smell even more delicious. (I also watched The Bachelor as I enjoyed the romantic candle-light with Marie. I’m a sucker for that show.) I did a little work from bed, oh the luxury of a lap top and working from home, and then finally got on with the day, starting with a few pictures. Leopard and leather called to me this morning. Now I must be off to run around town checking errands off my list!
What little things make you happy on these never-ending cloudy days?

Clothes like this make me feel young and fresh. Simple silhouettes, cotton and comfort, seems pretty All-American to me. I mean, All-Canadian.

Wearing: Mimi & Coco striped shirt, Fidelity denim, Coach sneakers. Ring from my sister, Mac Kissable Lipcolour in En-Chantee.
Sometimes I think I’m more at home in outfits like this than my heels and dresses….. Nahh, no way. Nothing is better than getting all dolled up! But this feels pretty good right now. (Who knew shoes could be so comfortable!) ; )

Certain people in your life influence you in ways you do not notice. Like when I started layering sweaters over collared shirts, I’d say that was because I used to spent a lot of time around a young man that liked to dress that way. I’ve left him to the pocket squares and loafers, though. Heels for me, please. Just after Christmas I went for a family lunch with my mother, her two cousins (one 61, the other 80), and my grandmother (90). For such an occasion I felt it was appropriate to dress conservatively, only to be told by my charming sister later that I looked like I was 40. Well, then fine. I look like I’m 40, and I’m happy about it.

Wearing: Ralph Lauren Sport cable-knit pull over, Zara button-up shirt, Fidelity denim, Rockport boots found at Winners. Fossil rose gold watch and $3 aviators purchased from a street vendor in midtown Manhattan.
I later went to Guilt & Co. in Gastown in this outfit, doesn’t everyone go out in a collared shirt?

Last night I was thrilled to make my way over to Rogers Arena to watch the Canucks game from the Metropolis Hot Seats! (It was my 3rd ever, and being a born and mostly raised Vancouverite, that’s a little shameful.) So needless to say, thrilled and very excited!

So how did I end up at the game in one of the Metropolis Hot Seats? Metropolis at Metrotown is currently holding a contest offering its shoppers a chance to win tickets to the next big concert or Canucks game from an executive suite at Rogers Arena. Click HERE for details! Enter! Last night’s game was attended by 6 contest winners! I attended the game as the guest blogger – you may have seen other posts by bloggers who also attended a game or concert, such as Niki of A Haute Mess and Nicole of Le Mode De Jour. A big thank you to Metropolis at Metrotown and Sarah Wong for having me there!
The game was a great one to watch, though in the end we did lose 2-3 to the St Louis Blues. Not to mention the yummy treats our box suite was provided with! Another thank you for providing me dinner as well… I don’t know about you ladies, but I have a bad habit of forgetting that I need to eat around dinner time, and will often go out unfed. I was preparing myself mentally for the stadium hot dogs and overdone churos when all of a sudden a knock at the door! Santa?!? Close enough! A man carrying trays of mini burgers and wings! Mmmm! And of course, there was this lovely spread (below) of appetizers!
This sounds like a sporting event fit a lady heyy?? Well, between your Christmas gift shopping and picking up a few things for yourself at Forever XX1, stop by the customer service counter (conveniently located right by Forever XX1, see how they’re thinking of you?!) and enter yourself in this fabulous contest. There’s also a customer service counter located near West 49/Claire’s in the mall. You can also score a ticket by following Metropolis at Metrotown on Twitter and liking the Facebook page!
Perhaps, if you follow me on Twitter, which you should!, you may have seen my live-tweeting last night from the game. I was really into it, and included tweets such as this and this. #MetropolisHotSeats
As you’ve seen above, I indeed wore a Canucks jersey to the game! Being only a third-timer I don’t own my own jersey, but I happened to mention to a male friend that I wanted to wear Canucks apparel and he generously offered his Linden jersey! Perfect! I just happened to meet the silver fox in October!
Wearing: Linden Canucks jersey (a few sizes too big!), Alternative Apparel hoodie, Joe Fresh green pack-away puffy jacket, Fidelity denim and Brown’s leather boots.
Byeee for now!

p.s. Marie was not too happy that she wasn’t invited…

I measured. That heel is a dangerous six inches from top to bottom. This would be one of my simpler looks. (I would say that after just describing the absurd height of my shoes.) No accessories, save for the tranny shoes, just a basic dark skinny jean and mens’ wear inspired shirt, buttoned up to the very top. I saw this look, (buttoned-up all the way), at Celine and Chloe and really liked the primness of it, but I find it hard to pull it off without looking too conservative. I think it works with this shirt though.
Wearing: H&M sheer army green shirt, Fidelity dark skinnies, Office London for TopShop flower-print heels, (purchased in SoHo this past August), pink Anna Sui lipstick.
The sun is breaking the clouds apart as I write this, and the blue sky beckons, “Come play outside!.” I must obey!
