Miss Alicia Fashionista and I met yesterday morning for an indulgent cup of chai tea latte at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia’s divine cafe, Bel Cafe. It’s amazing what an invigorating conversation can do for your mood. After our drinks we crossed the street to the Vancouver Art Gallery where I have been wanting to snap shots for some time now. Alicia took these for me. TGIF! Have a fabulous weekend! I plan to spend mine finishing Napoleon Hill’s Think & Grow Rich, watching a couple episodes of Dexter – George and I can’t get enough, though I squirm at the gore-insinuated bits, and going for light jogs – summer trousers are less forgiving than winter denim.

Today, as I mentioned on Twitter, I am off to Vancouver Island to spend a little holiday time with my Pops. I layered up for the occasion; a cozy plaid shirt has never felt more appropriate. Ms. Spade was a favourite Christmas present from the man in my life, which might usually be Santa, but this year is my very generous BF. Santa, you better up your game.

Ohmyheavens I can not wait until NYE! It is my favourite festive occasion this year, mostly because of all the sparkle and the noise that ensues. I want to wear a silly hat and have confetti rain down on the party. I know I can at least count on a good glass of champagne. Or two. Or three. I plan to celebrate. Are you looking forward to the end of 2011? Big plans for 2012? Fill me in! ;) AND what are you WEARING?!

Stationery-style treats for you!: Right now The Doctor’s Closet and Alicia Fashionista are holding giveaways so you can win your very own set of LOVE + MARK’D cards! (And if you win, you get to choose whichever four cards you like. Talk about service!)

Yesterday my first article was published on The Huffington Post Canada! Give it read here and tell me what you think!

And have a fab Tuesday.

White?! After Labor Day?! Oh my! Oh yes! I love white. White on white on white. My bedroom is all white; it’s like waking up at a lovely beach house. Wearing white, and like colours, makes me feel so fresh and crisp. And feminine!

{ Wearing well travelled pieces: Tara Jarmon blouse (Paris), Oasis jeans (London), Kate Spade bag (Palm Dessert), Zara shoes and sunnies from who-knows-where (they cost about $3, but I love them) }

Wednesday morning and all was hectic. Had to get to work early, my apartment was a crazy disaster, I hadn’t even begun to pack and all I really wanted to do was bloggity-blog-blog. At least I managed to get myself decently put together, and why not go out with a bang of pink on my last day in Vancouver! This Jason Wu skirt has really become a favourite, though I don’t wear it too often, after all, the original tag price was $1700 and I wouldn’t want any little thing to happen to it. At price-per-wear, I think I’m at about $425 per wear. (Good thing I only paid $80.)

Well, I had to get to London before I could blog. Here I am sitting in our hotel room in Kensington Gardens (it’s 6:30pm here), listening to Nelly’s “Ride With Me” while we get ready for dinner in Chelsea. Oops, running late for dins now, must go but will be back, for I have much to blog about! StyleStruck does Europe!

Strolling around English Bay on a sunny morning! I love this tunic, it’s the modest girl’s answer to Dolce & Gabbana’s eyelet ensembles. Today feels like a real Vancouver spring day, so of course I wanted to wear sunny, bright colours like dandelion yellow and gold.

Wearing: Exetera blouse and tank (underneath) from Bellissima, Sevens denim, Christian Louboutin sandals, Kate Spade tote, Michael Kors watch, Stella & Dot Eternity ring and H&M sunnies.

Dontcha just love an easy tunic? Girls, I know you’re pickin up what I’m puttin down here, it’s the easiest thing to wear after a big breakfast and a couple mimosas, no? Forgiving and glam! Loves it. I’ve been asked a number of times where I shop, the answer is everywhere and anywhere. I don’t think you can purchase everything from just a couple shops (although the hipster-esque girls clad head-to-toe in Aritzia would disagree with me). Style is innate, so really it doesn’t matter where you shop, as long as you understand the silhouette and fabrications that are on trend, flattering and to your taste. For instance, take this outfit, my jeans are from Aritizia circa 2008, my shoes a hand-me-down from my sister, my bag from Holt Renfrew, and my blouse from Bellissima, which is traditionally a ladies’ shop. I did a tour around the South Granville location of Bellissima last Friday and was very pleasantly surprised by the selection – see my last post! Do you have one favourite store or do you shop around as well?

Happy Friday!

I’ve made a few changes to Marie’s and my club house, namely moving these fantastic mirrored tables to either side of the couch, and finally properly putting up pictures. I’m really enjoying this new set up, as is Marie. As you can see, she even gets to have her little house in the living room. (We’ve already been over this.) My apartment isn’t that girly, is it? Well, I do have pink toilet paper, and pink fluffs and high heels on my shower curtain.

Wearing: BCBG shirt, H&M shorts, Manolo Blahnik leopard flats, Kate Spade tote, Armani Exchange sun glasses, jewelry unknown.

Pictures brought to you by my “other” camera, the camera that lives in the back of my desk drawer and absolutely only comes out for emergencies when the Nikon is having issues. Oh well, if it means I can show you the latest of my outfits, then I am a happy blogger.

Au revoir!

Xo StyleStruck

I present to you some of my most treasured bags: (and my cat)

Apparently, what’s mine is Marie’s.

This collection of bags has come to me over the past four years, mostly from vintage shops around Vancouver.

You’ve seen this bag before – vintage Pierre Cardin, purchased from Deluxe Junk in Gastown for a fraction of what it’s worth. This bag doesn’t seem to wear down, I’ve taken it everywhere and paired it with everything from yellow snakeskin heels to Uggs during a winter outing, circa 2008. It accompanies me on all big occasions – what doesn’t snakeskin pair well with? it’s basically a neutral!

This little piece of candy, by Franchi, was something I had my eye on for weeks at Holts, and then my sister bought it. So I didn’t. Then, when I got my Miu Miu sparklers (seen in last post), I regretted not having it because obviously it wouldn’t have been too much to wear them together… or so I then thought. Anyways, my sister has recently been cleaning out her closet in an effort to downsize and gifted me with this adorable little bag for my birthday! LOVE! I see it with nude mary-janes, or perhaps a new pair of neutral snakeskin platform peep-toe pumps, those would be my perfect shoes. Do they even exist??

This leather alligator-printed bag was a find at a Main St vintage shop. It finally came home with me two months after I first saw it, a surprise gift! It is Italian leather and surprisingly completes many outfits – I love the graphic look of the print. Fabulous.

I’m quite sure you’re familiar with the yellow Kate Spade, it’s become a clear favorite. The other, the little pink vintage eel skin clutch is from Value Vintage about 2 years ago when I had first moved to Haro and Bute and Robson shopping was just a hop, skip and a jump away. I would go shopping in the mornings before work, which is actually how this blog came about – an early morning trip to Starbucks and Value Vintage. On that note, happy 2 year anniversary to this blog!

With summer just around the corner, and hopes of making it across the Atlantic to France and England, I’m pinching my pennies. Hence a post featuring bags I already own and plan to use in fresh ways, as I plan to do with all my clothes. Actually, as you might assume, I have amassed quite a collection of clothing over the years, and this spring when I pulled out the S/S boxes from under my bed to switch the winter clothes into, there were so many pieces I had forgotten about! I’m looking forward to styling them into the current trends! (Confession: I can’t stop shopping. I’ve bought a few new things lately, and then the guilt becomes so overwhelming as I know that money should go towards my being able to sleep somewhere in Europe that I return the items right away. Fashion torture. I can’t even go near the shops. Don’t even mention Zara to me.)

This is what I will likely wear when I am 30-something and busy with tots: wet hair pulled back into a low chignon, a loose, silk blouse, cuffed denim, flats and a ladylike tote. Perfect for running errands and tending to antsy little ones (or so I assume). Except for that I’m 23 and I want to wear it now. (Minus the kids – the closest I’m getting to mothering any time soon is caring for my kitten, Marie.)

Wearing: JNBY blouse, Sirens denim, Zara flats, Kate Spade tote. I was just too darn lazy to do the whole hair-blow-dry production this morning, hence the easy hair style, and lack of accessories.

This shot reminds me of the time (x3) that a friend’s Mom asked me when I had broken my nose. I have never broken my nose. (And she figured that out when my face turned sour in front of her). Thank you father for passing down this unique and at times frustrating Lovenmark trait. I say frustrating because pictures can be tricky, in certain lighting it does indeed look like a broken nose – like I was a hockey player in my past life who had a penchant for fighting. At least I have all my teeth.

Kiss kiss,

Like spend hours on end sitting in a salon chair, letting dye do it’s job, or enduring the windy blow dryer in pursuit of the perfect accidentally big and fabulous hair. (It’s certainly not in vogue at the moment to show effort towards your hair – just look at the all the New York scenesters, nothing more than a pulled back chignon, or a casual side part and naturally dried hair. But that look or attitude never was very me. Remember my NYE ‘do? Also courtesy of the fantastic Suki’s Salon!)

But this was my day (the day of the Guess event) and you know I went for? Texas style hair. I wanted big and bouncy, and Suki’s gave me just that! The day prior I also spent time at Suki’s having highlights done. Oh, the maintenance involved in being a woman. This post will document my wonderfully spa-like experience at our downtown Suki’s. (Pictures courtesy of my BlackBerry.)

Day 1 at Suki’s: The Highlights – please don’t judge me too harshly on the below photo… I myself find it a little alarming. It is me sans make up and shame. Let’s preface this though with the finished result:

I rather enjoy getting my hair done, with the right colorist and stylist it can be quite relaxing. My colorist, Felicia, does wonders on my hair, I always leave feeling fresh and perky – bright blonde will do that for you. (Above wearing: Silk blouse from (212) in Gastown and Zara skirt.)

New blonde = giddy.

Day 2 at Suki’s: The Blowout

Ooooh, gettin close to Texas style!

Achieved. And now, let’s bring it down a little to Vancouver style…

Guess party here I come! Wearing: Mossimo trench, Old Navy cardigan and Fidelity denim with my Kate Spade tote.

With the Guess ladies in from Toronto and my fellow hosts! Alicia Fashionista, A Haute Mess and The Anthology. All outfits by Guess!

With Vancouver tweeters and friends, Marisa, Christine and Liz.

A big giant thank you to Suki’s for giving me the ultimate hair experience! I shall be back soon!

I love this JNBY (Just Naturally Be Yourself) shirt dress. It feels professional and preppy, but totally man-friendly at the same time (think: thrown-on boyfriend’s over-sized shirt). I recently wore this outfit (sans clutch, but with my pink Kate Spade bag), to meet and talk with my high school fashion teacher’s grade 11/12 sewing class. (Which was fantastic! And they have an upcoming fashion show that I’m excited to attend! Ohhh memories!).

I mentioned a little while back that I recently wore this dress out for dinner to my favorite Greek spot here in the West End. That time though I paired it with cobalt blue suede strappy heels, a darker blue version of this Marc by Marc Jacobs purse, no belt and messy hair (it was man-approved!). As with all JNBY pieces, this dress is incredibly versatile and can be worn in more than one way!

Wearing: Gifted JNBY shirt dress, vintage pony hair leopard printed belt (from Darling in NYC’s West Village), Marc by Marc Jacobs purse, Michael Kors watch, rose gold bangle from Blue Ruby, suede Rockport boots (I’m really having a moment with these boots right now), vintage Ray Bans, Cargo lipgloss (thanks to the fabulous people who put the Guess party swag bags together!).

A casual stroll in English Bay, hellloo spring time!!

This dress was a wonderful gift from JNBY, many thanks! Their wonderful head visual merchandiser Raffaele recently took me through a look of the Spring 2011 collection and it is fantastic. Lots of amazing casual shirts and jackets just waiting to be dressed up with a belt and a great little skirt or printed leggings. I think I’m going to have to go back for one of their very original origami-inspired skirts too!

Find JNBY on South Granville, West 4th, or in Metrotown!

I snapped these pictures quickly yesterday afternoon just before I left my apartment for Suki’s downtown salon. A major blow out was in my future, and it was fabulous. My stylist gave me what I like to call “Texas hair.” Though, I took a bus home after the appointment and by the time I got to the Guess store on Robson St. for last night’s party, my hair had lost a little of the Texas-size volume, but kept all the bounce. Thank you Suki’s for making me feel GLAMOROUS!

Just before leaving, I threw on a beige trench coat and cinched it at the waist, I thought the overall effect of my outfit was rather Audrey, particularly the vintage Ray Bans.

Wearing: Tulle blouse (from Darling in NYC’s West Village), Fidelity denim, Zara flats, Kate Spade bag. Vintage Ray Bans. Sparkly Chanel lip gloss.

Watch for a post coming SOON, SOON, SOON about last night’s GUESS party! Lots of pictures! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO ATTENDED! You were all fabulous. It was such a fun evening, and so great to meet everyone!

Last night I teetered (walking on Yaletown’s cobble stone lined side walks is not easy feat in 5″ heels) over to V Lounge at Earls for a Vancouver production of FNO put on by Social Chair, Define Magazine and @hummingbird604.

The event benefited Out in Schools – an organization on a mission to educate youth on the dangers of bullying, homophobia and stereotypes, and featured spring/summer fashions from The Bay’s White Space.

I’m not sure what got into me, but I was feeling satin leopard print – maybe I’ve been watching too much jersey Shore. But I figured if I balanced it with a jacket, tights and a ladylike bag I could pull off the look. Looking back, I may retire the dress to the back of my closet for awhile. I mean, you can only wear satin leopard print so often right? (Like once a season. Except that I wore silk leopard print for my birthday as well, which was on Saturday. Birthdays don’t count for fashion rules. That’s a new rule.)

With fabulous friend Eryne Ordel, who is holding a baby Balenciaga – a.k.a. a clutch. Wearing: Zara leather bomber jacket, Guess leopard print dress, H&M tights, Browns ID patent leather heels, Kate Spade bag, gold studded belt from Bang-On. Vintage ring.

A big congrats to Social Chair – Vancouver’s new lifestyle PR firm featuring co-principals Niki Blasina and Ashley Mangat – on a fantastic evening. A few photos from the night:

Party guests!

And the front row… (well one side of it, I was on the other.)

p.s. I tweet all the darn time.

Wednesday, February 23rd marked the launch party of the new Michael Kors store in Pacific Centre. Make that the gorgeous new Michael Kors store. There is such a major selection of merchandise there, it is mayy-jor! Beyond.

The event was fabulous as well (serving Veuve and the most delicious nibbles), though a little tight, with little room to move around so I only snapped a couple pictures, or rather had a couple taken. Below is one of those pictures with bloggers Victoria Potter of Demi Couture and Peter Ty of The Starving Stylist.

I am wearing: Leather bomber jacket from Zara with a piece of vintage fur, a white shirt (underneath) from Tar-jay (Target), Zara leopard print skirt and my new Birthday-present-to-me, the sunny Kate Spade tote.

On my wish list from the MK store? A gold leather iPad case, for the iPad I don’t have. Yet. I will have my hands on one soon! (I must.)

Be sure to check the store out, though be warned: you will find one, or a few things you just realized you need.

Happy shopping!

Today I picked up my birthday present to myself. I have had my eye on this treasure for what seems like ages and finally today I brought it home. *fashion swoooon*

This Kate Spade “Quinn” tote, also known as the “head in the sand” bag because of it’s gorgeous ostrich print (it’s made of cowhide leather), has a fabulous silk polka dot lining and features more than enough pockets to keep all my things organized. I am so thrilled! Can’t wait to tote this around town. I’m really starting to appreciate stand-out bags, particularly colorful bags, like this pink Kate Spade bag. (Note: I bought this bag for myself, because I’m single this birthday. And it’s going to be a very feminine affair.)

And you know what else I love? Decorating my apartment. With each addition and each project completed this one-bedroom feels more and more like mine. Next up, a picture project to fill an empty space near my desk. Two frames to fill!

After my drugstore bronzer cracked the other day, I finally decided it was time to suck it up and buy a better quality bronzer, and am I ever glad I did. (I can spend on furniture and bags, but for some reason couldn’t do it for a tan. Those days are over.) My new favourite bronzer; Benefit’s Hoola bronzing powder.

And finally, what’s better than coming home to a beautiful entrance way? I am in LOVE with this table (an early birthday present from Mum – she has great taste!), but was at a loss with how to decorate it. Browsing through Chintz & Co Saturday morning I spotted this fantastic candle holder and can’t wait to have guests walk through the door to lit candles. That’d be a lovely welcome, hey?

From top: Kate Spade Quinn tote from Holt Renfrew, picture frame (left), from Homesense, the other was a Christmas present from my Mum, Benefit Hoola bronzer from Sephora, candle holder from Chintz & Co, mirrored table from Villa Beau Interiors.

Thanks for visiting!

p.s. follow me on Twitter!

Thursday night I attended an event at The Bay celebrating the launch of the new Coach store. The party featured a candy bar, champagne and fun swag – a set of colourful Coach pencils. My good friend and fellow blogger, Stephanie Walker, seen on this blog rather frequently lately, also went and we couldn’t resist a few outfit shots before going in. This silk top, by Karen Kane, is one of my favourite pieces. It was actually my mother’s from decades ago and luckily she took excellent care of it before passing it on to me. I used to wear it with white jeans and evening sandals, now I opt for black leather and heels.

Wearing: Talula military style coat, Karen Kane (as in the Canadian ballerina), silk Jaguar printed top, pleated leather skirt from Zara, H&M tights, Browns ID patent leather heels, Kate Spade bag. Bangles from years ago, I can’t remember where I purchased those, H&M stud bracelet.

Stephanie is wearing a dress from Urban Outfitters and Louis Vuitton bag.

It was a fun and fabulous evening!

Today I awoke to a grey Toronto sky just ready to shower the many bustling downtown streets. No umbrella necessary, this military style cape with an extra-big hood did just fine. I had really hoped to capture a few outdoor photos, but with the rain there was no hope of setting my camera up anywhere. (I suppose that’s what boyfriends are for, among other things.)

Wearing: Zara cape, Aritzia Cowichan wool sweater, Fidelity skinny jeans, Browns boots, Kate Spade purse and a pink plaid cashmere scarf from a neighboring store to the Pantages Hotel.

What’s in my bag when I run around a new city? Most of the usual:

In my bag: LaCoupe travel-size hair spray, Ipod Nano, black leather wallet from Zara, a baby pink day planner that I painted neon pink with craft paint, (I was bored one afternoon and was experimenting with neon pink), A Christian Lacroix notebook, a pen from the Drake Hotel, travel papers with flight and hotel confirmation numbers, my Blackberry Bold, a small Canon camera, a luggage key, blog cards, MAC pressed powder, Chanel lipgloss and Dior lipstick.

This afternoon I visited the legendary downtown Hudson’s Bay Company on Queen St. First to the 8th floor for a late lunch, which also happened to be breakfast, then after a fresh application of lipstick and gloss, down to the 3rd floor where they keep the treasure; The Room.

I snapped quite a few photos of The Room, but because I wanted to avoid looking like a creep with my camera, I took these photos with my Blackberry.

Above: Matthew Williamson brights and texture, below: the wall that divides The Room from the rest of the 3rd floor is made of these beautiful suspended blocks of glass. Through the “wall,” drawers of designer costume jewelry beneath a mannequin dressed head-to-toe in glamour.

How do you find ways of adding glamour into your life? On a casual day cashmere, beautiful leather and polished lips do it for me.

Thank you for reading!

Now I’ve really made it, ullttttrraa glam. This paper cup full of piping hot tea and plastic chair I’m sitting on really do spell glamorous. Okay, that was sarcasm, but I really am so excited to be lifting off in approximately 57.5 minutes. Thus far the morning has gone rather well, I finished packing, decided last minute to change a few items in my bag for a few items from the closet (is 4am really the best time to decide what you’ll want to wear three days later?? We’ll see… so long red wool pea coat, hello navy wool cape), and gave myself a mini-blow-out. (Sorry next door neighbors - my hair dryer is quite the powerful machine). And then there was a morning time surprise for me, I went to fetch my carry on luggage, (a cute Betsey Johnson gingham bag with pink flowers), only to discover that my darling kitten had peed on it some time ago. Meaning the smell was, uh, well, it was powerful. It was like a punch of cat pee to the face really. (Forgive me for that, but there’s no other way to describe it.) And while I do hope to project somewhat of a classy image through this blog, I do not mind you knowing that my cat has made some bad urination decisions. That said, I threw the bag in the tub, gave it a scrub down, doused it in CK one and threw in my stuff. Here I sit at the airport and I’m sitting downwind of my bag… yes there’s a draft and yes there’s an odd scent of, what is it? Is that CK one and…? And?? What is that smell? Oh wait, we know what it is. But I’m going to play clueless. Clueless when I jam the bag into the overhead compartment on the plane, clueless when my friend Alex picks me up at the airport and clueless when I wheel my bags into the Drake Hotel on Sunday night. (My secret better be safe with you.)

Ohh, the trials and tribulations of owning an adorable kitten, who is with my Mum while I’m away, let’s hope she’s a good kitten house guest.

Best be off to the departure gate,
