On Monday my good friend Stephanie and I went for our annual Fall Frolic. For years now in October we’ve visited Stanley Park on a sunny day with hot seasonal coffees to enjoy the crisp fallen leaves and generally just have a good frolic around the park. I look forward to it every year!

{Cole Haan bag and pumpkin spice lattes from 7-11; I share this with you because we tried them on a whim, and were very pleasantly surprised! Delish, and only $1.98 (or so). Because of that great value we decided we should also get bags of 5 cent candies, bringing our expenditures to a more even $4.00. ;)}

{Wearing: H&M mens sweater, Prada dress, Zara belt, tights borrowed from Stephanie, Steve Madden boots, Armani sunnies}

Along the way through Stanley Park I carried around my recycled grocery bag collecting pretty undamaged leaves and chestnuts for drying. I much rather decorate with authentic Fall pieces than store decor and these findings will be perfect for a Fall-themed soiree I am hosting on Saturday!

{Marie’s new favourite toys are chestnuts. I lay them out in the sun on an old tea towel to dry and the next morning it was like an Easter egg hunt, but with chestnuts – Marie had batted them all around the apartment. Haha Marie, you funny little thing. Do you remember her Halloween sweater from last year?? Too good!}

{After making those yummy cupcakes last weekend for dessert at Thanksgiving dinner, I had quite a lot of cupcake mix and icing left. Tonight I whipped up the leftovers into mini cupcakes! And these little cupcake decorations are also in prep for Saturday!}

What are you doing to celebrate the Fall season?

This girl gets my love for navy knitwear. #KindredSpirit

This is Vogue Market Editor Jessica Sailer, a young lady with a lot of shopping wisdom – she seems to have a knack for finding the hottest sales! Givenchy lace up booties? Check. All the right Celine pieces? Check. Check out her other 4 looks in “5 Days, 5 Looks, 1 Girl” on Vogue.com! I particularly love this Prada Sport sweater Jessica wears, it’s an older piece that she inherited “years ago,” but it’s one of those timeless pieces that will always look chic and can really be paired with just about anything. How about white denim, or red denim, black trousers or a sequin skirt. I’d love it all.

Spring, are you here yet?? I only just got this BCBG MAX AZRIA vest last week (as a result of my BCBG Max Azria spring 2011 collection preview – many thanks!!), but am already OBSESSED with it. Last Thursday I wore it to the office with a white shirt and jeans, I have plans to pair it with a fitted BCBG Max Azria red dress and today it felt right with this lovely Jason Wu S/S 2010 silk pleated skirt (the skirt that was originally $1635 – obviously NOT what I paid).

Wearing: BCBG Max Azria vest, vintage skinny gold leather belt, Jason Wu skirt, Poetic Licence heels, red OPI manicure & pedicure.

I’ve been learning how to better use my camera! These pictures are the result. My cousin was in town visiting this weekend and he informed me that I’m likely using 5% (or less) of my cameras capabilities. Naturally.

As Sunday night comes to a close, I’m reflecting on what a lovely weekend it has been thus far: Friday night was spent at Goldfish celebrating a girlfriend’s 25th birthday and Saturday night resulted in a delicious dinner at a local Greek restaurant, for which I dressed the part: a white JNBY shirt dress (pictures coming soon!) and towering blue suede heels.

Tonight I did my taxes. But at least I did my taxes while wearing Prada.

Tomorrow is the dreaded Monday, find a way to make it special. Perhaps a favourite coffee in the morning, slicking on a deliciously bright lipstick or just checking in on your favorite blog on the way to work for inspiration.

Yesterday morning my Mum and I ventured over to Granville Island’s market for a delicious calorie-full breakfast (cinnamon and sugar crepes). I started mine off with a vanilla rooibus latte and cinnamon sticks from Starbucks, that’s what Saturdays are for; delicious treats. Wandering through the busy marketplace is delightful, you can find anything and everything, from dragon fruit to the best selection of spices to a good old homemade donut from Lee’s. And the pastry cases, it was hard to pass by those and not order a lemon tart, but I resisted.

Wearing: Plaid wool cape, brand unknown (I ripped the tag out ages ago), Prada dress, Zara flats, Gianni Chiarini leather carryall, and you guessed it, I picked these tights up along with my milk and eggs at Safeway. Michael Kors watch, H&M sunnies and my scarf is a black pashmina.

How do you spend your Saturday mornings?

Here I am on Day 3, I’ve moved over to the Pantages Hotel on Victoria St and am feeling very comfortable here. This hotel is quite suited to my taste, chic and clean and modern, yet cozy. The bed is a fluffy white oasis, as is the large tub and neutral color scheme of white, cream and chocolaty tones. It seems I’ve dressed just for my room!

Wearing: Prada dress (purchased yesterday at Fashionably Yours – the most amazing designer consignment store I have ever been to! And every member of the staff seems to write a fashion blog! You never know who you’ll meet there!), tights from Mum, I think Sears or the The Bay, Report suede boots, Aritzia cowichan wool sweater, Gianni Chiarini leather carryall and vintage Rayban shades.

After I checked in to The Pantages, I met Ryan Cheung, Flare magazine’s Senior Fashion Editorial Intern, and one of their many talents, and then had a light lunch at the Bloor St. Holt Renfrew Cafe.

I thought I’d do a quick outfit post!

Today I had a pretty awesome, and hilarious, t-shirt made…

And I thought about wearing it tonight…

But I wasn’t really feeling the shirt with the pleather pants, so I ended up wearing this:

And of course the pictures are taken in what is the bathroom here. The rooms are quite small and this is the only place I can get far enough away from the camera to show the whole outfit. I will find some new spots for pictures tomorrow… I hear there’s a castle here in Toronto! (The dress behind the T-shirt in the first picture is Prada, we’ll talk about that tomorrow!)

Off to dinner!

P.S. Wearing: Shirt from random SoHo shop in NYC, vintage pleather pants, leather Zara boots, OR Yany sequin purse, rose gold bangle from Blue Ruby.

Last week I was working away at my computer when I received a lovely surprise all the way from the other side of the Atlantic… a press release from Prada!  The press release told about the label’s use and appreciation of location-unique methods of craftsmanship.

*pause for a second here* I’m not sure how my email got onto the Prada PR team’s blogger list, but oh happy day it did!

I think it’s fabulous to embrace the best techniques, not to mention very tried and true techniques, of each culture, especially for such an internationally recognized brand like Prada. Why try to recreate the brilliant job that Scots do with their wools, when you could have them expertly create the genuine article and give them their due recognition? Not to mention that the quality will be top notch.

Now if only I could get my hands on one of these pieces – ideally I’d like to build my Prada collection beyond the pair of heels I own.

What do you think, is this a smart move on the part of Prada?

I think yes.

In English, “Strutting up Park Avenue in six inch platforms.”

Thursday morning we woke up ready to hit the streets! Off to the Upper East Side for some “light” shopping, as in, I brought back a lip gloss from Chanel. But nonetheless, visiting Miu Miu, Prada and Chanel was just grand.

The Dior store was getting a facelift, so the exterior was covered by a giant quilted purse. Amazing.

Wearing: H&M army green top, Talula spandex tank, Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace, Macy’s enamel bangle, Urban Behaviour denim shorts, Gianna Chiarini leather carry-all, vintage Ray Bans and Chanel platform sandals.

For brunch we re-visited a favourite, Palace Restaurant. I couldn’t tell you where it is, but I know it’s right around the corner from Miu Miu (where sadly the shoes were fabulously impressive and also highly priced), and just down the street from Turnbull and Asser (a marvelous place to find lovely pocket squares for the gentleman in your life). Palace was full of lunching business types and women meeting to share gossip and news of their grandkids, a perfect midday stop for sugary, syrup-covered french toast! After brunch, we visited the Waldorf Hotel – I’ve never seen such amazing bathrooms! (Except for maybe at the Plaza.)

And to our third and final Upper East Side desination, Bergdorfs! I’ve really never seen a restaurant so glamorous and so full of glamorous people in my life. I could lunch there every day of my life.

My only picture of the Bergdorf’s restaurant and I’m mid-chat. Anyhow, it sure was a treat! By the way, my lunch consisted of pink champagne. After lunch I dragged poor Tommy through the shoe salon, which is more like an amazon of stilettos and leather and crystals. I practically needed blinders on, I was going shoe-crazy. Unlike the last time I visited the shoe salon though, this time I left with no bags. Plenty of wishes and wants though. (Summer 2008 my mother and visited NYC during the July sale season when I purchased a pair of leopard Manolo Blahnik flats, seen here, and Prada nude pumps, seen here. Swooon.) Of course since Bergdorf’s is just next door to the most fabulous hotel, I had to take a photo in front of the Plaza, ohh memories!

Yep, I changed into flats. Zara white leather flats.

Fast forward about six hours and you would find me, along with a slew of other Vancouverites and hip New Yorkers sipping cocktails in the Ace Hotel lobby, which also doubles as a very popular bar in the evenings. The men went on to a bachelor party, (we went to NYC for a wedding, which happened Saturday), while one of the other boy’s girl and I marched off to the Meatpacking District to find some fun! And did we ever! I’m still waiting on the photo from Jen, but we met, and got a photo with, Lance Bass! It was all rather extraordinary the way our night panned out. We jumped in a cab from the Ace with the intention of getting out at a random spot in the Meatpacking District and getting a drink wherever looked good. It just so happened the cabbie let us off right in front of Ten June, a popular NYC club, (which, thanks to Miss Andrea Milner, I’ve been to before!). Of course, being only 10:15 or so, it was too early to go clubbing, so the bouncer told us to get a drink next door and come over around 11:30. Into the next lounge we went! Only after ordering a drink and grabbing a menu did I realize we had ended up at a spot I’ve been dying to go to for years, STK, a fantastic steak house and “it” spot, where we met Lance.

Wearing: Sirens white t, Zara pleated leather skirt, Zara leather studded belt, Marc by Marc Jacobs quilted clutch, vintage ring and H&M stud bracelet, with matte bubblegum pink Rimmel lipstick. Martini by STK. (You can’t see my shoes, but they were Stuart Weitzman patent leather 5 inchers).

Afterwards it was off to Ten June where we danced the night away!

What: BC Business Top 100 Businesses Luncheon  Where: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver  When: Wednesday, June 30, 11:30am

I’ve never seen so many suits in one room! I accompanied BC Business blog writer, Tommy Humphreys, (he writes The Shift Key), and was able to meet so many people, including bumping into an old high school friend, hear some inspiring stories and have a great lunch. It also gave me a great opportunity to dress up!

Wearing Jason Wu skirt with a blouse from Target, Prada nude mary-janes, Kate Spade purse and a Fossil watch. I looove this skirt, walking up and down the marble staircases at the Hotel Vancouver, my skirt was swishing and flouncing around. Very pretty! (Previous blog feature of the Jason Wu skirt)

The Shoes! A pair of Pradas I snapped up at a Bergdorf’s sale a couple years ago in NYC.

Tommy introduced me to his BC Business online editor, John Bucher, so I snapped a picture of the two of them:

Notice John’s matching silk tie and pocket square, very nice John.

This past Wednesday night was the JK Models 1-Year Anniversary party at Leone. Jennifer Koning, the Director of JK Models, got me involved about three months ago when she needed someone to cover her PR needs. I’m happy to say the party was a wonderful success and also rather fabulous! Thank you to everyone who came!

These bags hold boxes of designer shoes, shoes that make my rent look cheap! Among other things, I was responsible for taping the bottoms of the shoes. I didn’t mind, it meant getting close and personal with $1200 Dior strappy sandals.

One of the girls from JK Models strutting in 5+” Pradas.

PR representative for Leone Kim Bowie and I just before opening the doors to the guests! Looooving Kim’s fierce hair colour!

Susan Vu of Boudoir with Jillian Crago of Operation Style.

Niki Blasina of A Haute Mess with Peter Hoang of The Starving Stylist.

Well that’s it for now, more photos to come later today!

Annndd continued where my computer decided to cut my video off… (who know’s why, maybe my little white mac is still peeved about my having spilt chocolate ice cream on her). What’s the LOKBP you ask? The League of Kickass Business People. The purpose of the league and the meet up events is to network, meet other people within your industry and maybe even make a connection that leads to business.

Last night’s event was featuring F Cancer as the guest and provided the attendees with the opportunity to create tag lines for an up coming campaign that F Cancer is putting together. We all divided up into 6 groups of 5 people and got to work trying to conceive fresh and bold ideas for the campaign. The best part of that was being thrown into a situation where you had to work with strangers, I was paired with 3 very smart and accomplished people, all quite a bit older than me. My 22 years must have seemed like peanuts, but I like to think I held my own. (And like with most of these business type meet up events, I was the youngest, though I was with a young group. But where is everybody?? All you kids fresh out of university, don’t you want to network?? The geek in me seriously loves these events.)

Working with business people who are already established was an interesting experience for me because each person definitely had a very different perspective and a unique take on the task at hand. It got me thinking about what it must be like in the corporate world when you are placed in an office full of intellectual strangers. Perhaps a tad intimidating, a bit challenging and maybe even a little daunting. But this only makes me more excited to join the nine-to-fivers! I want a challenge and a stimulating environment and I know I shall find myself in one quite soon.

Well that’s it for now readers, now I must go get fabulous in less than 30 minutes… I bet Mariah never has to deal with time constraints like this.

Just as the weather turns grey here in Vancouver, I’m getting my wardrobe ready for sunny days galavanting around our fair city. One item in my closet that will be making many appearances this Spring and Summer, are my vintage leather high-waisted shorts. March through August, here we go:

MARCH

APRIL

MAY

JUNE

JULY

AUGUST

I can’t wait for warm spring days and summer heat that makes you crave those drippy yummy cyclone popsicles from 7-11. I can’t wait for fresh peonies and iced lattes while strolling down Robson. I just can’t wait for all the new spring sandals at Zara and weekends away wearing them… Till then, I’ll be keeping cozy in shalls, leather and over-sized denim.

You may have noticed that I take most pictures in my apartment, this is because 1: I don’t have as much time on my hands as I’d like, so rather than spend a day out taking photos with a friend, I do it at home and 2: as much as I do take pictures of myself for this blog, surprisingly I really don’t like being in front of the camera, especially when there is someone behind the camera! When I’m alone doing it, I find I am able to be much more creative.

I am wearing: vintage leather shorts from Legends on Main St. and…

March: Zara cropped jacket, I <3 NY tee from a NYC vendor, Zara wedges.

April: Kersh long cardigan, Forever 21 bolero, Betsey Johnson mules.

May: H&M denim vest, orange blouse-brand unknown, Manolo Blahnik flats, vintage snakeskin clutch

June: Vest from a street-side shop in Mexico, Zara studded belt, Heels… secret…

July: Zara blouse, vintage vest, Prada mary-janes.

August: Wilfred dress worn as shirt, Bang-On gold belt, Zara yellow faux snakeskin heels

New posts coming this week featuring events I recently attended and an upcoming Vancouver stylist! Stay tuned!
