Except for that I’m 23 and I want to wear it now. (Minus the kids – the closest I’m getting to mothering any time soon is caring for my kitten, Marie.)

I have never broken my nose. (And she figured that out when my face turned sour in front of her). Thank you father for passing down this unique and at times frustrating Lovenmark trait. I say frustrating because pictures can be tricky, in certain lighting it does indeed look like a broken nose – like I was a hockey player in my past life who had a penchant for fighting. At least I have all my teeth.

I wouldn’t venture out in this outfit just yet, but come late April I sure will. As for today I just couldn’t wait any longer! (So I wore it around my apartment.)

Wearing: Gifted JNBY silk/cotton blouse, Sirens ruffled skort, Rockport suede buckled boots.

This blouse is one of the most interesting pieces in my closet, being from JNBY (the new spring collection!), there are multiple ways to wear it (the majority of their clothes can be worn in more than one way). Here I have it tied back (it has two ties that be worn across the front, or in the back) so create a fitted silhouette, with the top buttons undone to create an open neckline. I’ve also tucked it in quite a bit so that my little ruffled skirt/shorts show, untucked it could be worn as a tunic. I adore multifunctional clothes! One day I’m feeling feminine, the next more androgynous and the shirt moves with me. The little skort is one of those pieces I refer to as play-clothes because you feel youthful wearing it and it evokes a mood of playfulness – perfect for warm nights. When the warm weather comes I tend to forgo a fully made up face in favor of a little bronzer and light lip gloss (this gloss, by MAC, is “man-friendly”: not sticky, light in pigment and sans sparkles).

Warm days are just around the corner!

This lovely soft grey top I’m wearing is courtesy of a lovely LA based PR lady from itgirl public relations, representing the Momentous Moments collection by ANAMA. The ANAMA collection pieces are luxurious and extremely eco-friendly, the fabric is an all-natural cellulose fiber made from beech wood. This also means that the fabric is so soft and comfortable.

My skirt is a project from my twelfth grade sewing class, we had to design our own skirts and then draft the patterns. I’ve always had a soft spot for tweed, so I chose this powder blue version, I still remember sewing the panels together. Now I’m getting nostalgic for my sewing days… or years rather, (I spent much of 2004-2007 sitting at a sewing machine). Boots are again the Sirens faux leather boots with my no-name tights and Fossil rose gold watch. MAC Lustre lipstick in Blow Dry. Oh, and just below is little Marie, how I love that fur ball. New blonde high lights done at Suki’s – love Suki’s for their great customer care and oh-so-fabulous head massages at the washing basin.

I better run, I’ve got to pack (and who knows how long that’s going to take!), before going out for dinner this evening. And must be to bed early tonight, 7 am flight to Toronto tomorrow morning! EAST COAST HERE I COME! Eeeeee!

I quickly turned on 103.5 QMFM – “Vancouver’s Christmas station, all Christmas music, all the time,” and got to work on my list of to-dos – the faster I accomplished my tasks the faster I could get outside! Around noon I started hunting for winter shoes, surprisingly I don’t have a very big selection, so that I could get on my way to meet a girlfriend for lunch on Robson St. I settled on a pair of faux leather knee high boots with a 3″ heel – perfect for keeping my feet out of the slush. (Turns out a heel is not ideal for the slippery slush at all, I was slipping and sliding all over the place.)

The Details:

Wearing: Zara cape, Aritzia Cowichan wool sweater, pink silk Party Skirt, tights from who-knows-where (probably London Drugs or Safeway), boots from Sirens (I know riiight?! Who knew Sirens made such solid footwear??), Gianni Chiarini leather carry-all, Holt Renfrew fur earmuffs, cream pashmina scarf and leather bracelet from a random shop in SoHo, NYC. (Yes, I know I have short, tiny thumbs for those of you who were going to comment on it.)

Though I spent much of my time slipping around, I had a great time running errands about town! Who doesn’t love snow? Then again, I don’t drive much these days… drivers hate snow. I have a handy, though not-so-stylish transit pass.

I hope you’re enjoying the weather! I hear the rain is going to wash it all away tonight and tomorrow… Make snow angels while you can!

Xo StyleStruck

P.S. All of these photos were taken using the same settings, but the brightness of the snow, and the lame-ness of my little point-and-shoot camera made each photo different.

Sunday morning was one of those morning when you know that something good must come to an end, like leaving Manhattan for home, and leaving the glamorous and exciting Ace Hotel for Vancouver’s quieter West End. I should have gotten up early that morning to pack, but those giant beds with enormous white down duvets and endless pillows trapped me, so I simply couldn’t get up. I paid for it half an hour later though when I was rushing around like a mad woman trying to stuff all of my new purchases into my already stuffed suitcase, (as usual, I brought double what I needed, but how is one supposed to know what she will feel like wearing?!). Luckily, I was traveling with a man whose suitcase was barely half full! In went my new 6″ heels, hair dryer, straightening iron, magazines and accessories. What someone might of thought had he had his suitcase searched at the air port haha… but Tommy is a sport! (Thanks Tommy!)

After barely getting my suitcase to zip up, we ditched our extremely heavy bags at the front desk and hopped in a cab to the West Village for brunch! We spotted a cute restaurant, Phillip Marie, that had the feel of a southern home and served “new American” cuisine. I chose the chicken, brie and pesto sandwich and a cup of hot coffee, perfect for a cloudy New York City day.

After brunch we wandered through the Village till we found the Rag & Bone shop, (above), where Tommy got a beautiful pair of leather sneakers and went halfers with me on a gorgeous navy Fall 2010 cashmere sweater which I will post about soon! (I’m in no shape for a photo shoot at the moment). You can find Rag & Bone in Vancouver at Holt Renfrew, Misch, (womens) and at Gravity Pope, (mens and womens). Click here for an Elle.com mini-feature on David Neville, and here for Marcus Wainwright!) As if on cue, the rain started to come down and it was time to go back to the Ace to collect our bags and make our way to the dreaded airport, (I hate flying).

The travel experience was less than desirable. Because of the torrential rain, our flight was delayed 3 hours, meaning we would miss our connecting flight in Seattle that evening. Which did indeed happen, and thank you American Airlines for treating us like lowly customers-I will not be flying American Airlines any time soon. We found ourselves stranded in Seattle for the night with no option other than to pay for a night at one of the airport hotels, synthetic sheets anyone? Finally, on Monday morning we made it home, still wearing Sunday’s clothes. Luckily, I wore a cute outfit, though Tommy did point out that perhaps all white wasn’t the best for traveling. However, I made it home without a spec on those white clothes, and somehow still smiling. All in all, it was a wonderful trip that I won’t soon forget!

Wearing: Cecico blouse, Sirens white jeans, Poetic License platform sandals (5″ for travelling), Gianni Chiarini leather carry-all, Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace, Michael Kors watch, bracelet bought from a street vendor in SoHo and aviators from a mid-town street vendor, ($3!!).

Can you tell I’m having a french moment? It’s because I am absolutely DYING to go to Paris. DYING. I am in the midst of trying to learn a little french, hence my integration of the language in my blog posts. Plus, what is chicer than french? (By the way, “Style frappé dans le village ouest” means “StyleStruck in the West Village,” a.k.a. Greenwich!)

Saturday morning I headed out of the hotel in search of breakfast nearby. Strolled down a few blocks and ended up, by accident, exactly in front of the Empire State Building! Quelle chance! Fabuleux! In all my time in NYC, I’ve never been up the Empire State Building! Breakfast was put on hold as I wanted to check it out. (If you’re going to do the Empire State Building, I highly recommend going early in the morning, I was there around 10 am and for once, there was no line! I’ve seen the line go around the block, and then what you don’t know is that once inside the building, there are several floors with ropes set up like mazes designed for more waiting. It could take hours.) The view was breathtaking, I’m so glad I did it!

At the tip there, that’s downtown Manhattan.

Off in the distance is the Brooklyn Bridge. If you go to NYC, I highly recommend walking across the bridge, it is such a wonderful experience and view is incredible!

After breakfast I went off to the West Village to do a little sight seeing and shopping! The West Village is home to the 4 or 5, I can’t keep count, Marc Jacobs stores, with most of them being on Bleecker St. If you walk further down Bleecker, you come to Jane St! And right near Jane St. is one of my favourite New York City stores, Darling.

This is the shop, called Darling, where I purchased my favourite vintage rings, and going back again did not disappoint! This time round I picked up a vintage silk scarf with navy and purple lions and a vintage pony hair leopard print belt.

After darling I visited a shop called Soapology, where I found the most delicious soy candles and walnut face and body scrub.

After shopping and sight seeing, (Carrie’s apartment on Perry St!), I took myself for lunch at The Pink Tea Cup. A small restaurant where the servers wear all black with touches of hot pink! The perfect place to order a glass of pink champagne.

Okay that’s it for now! Stay tuned for Part II of Day IV! It features the wedding and a couple fabulous designers you may recognize!

In English, “Strutting up Park Avenue in six inch platforms.”

Thursday morning we woke up ready to hit the streets! Off to the Upper East Side for some “light” shopping, as in, I brought back a lip gloss from Chanel. But nonetheless, visiting Miu Miu, Prada and Chanel was just grand.

The Dior store was getting a facelift, so the exterior was covered by a giant quilted purse. Amazing.

Wearing: H&M army green top, Talula spandex tank, Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace, Macy’s enamel bangle, Urban Behaviour denim shorts, Gianna Chiarini leather carry-all, vintage Ray Bans and Chanel platform sandals.

For brunch we re-visited a favourite, Palace Restaurant. I couldn’t tell you where it is, but I know it’s right around the corner from Miu Miu (where sadly the shoes were fabulously impressive and also highly priced), and just down the street from Turnbull and Asser (a marvelous place to find lovely pocket squares for the gentleman in your life). Palace was full of lunching business types and women meeting to share gossip and news of their grandkids, a perfect midday stop for sugary, syrup-covered french toast! After brunch, we visited the Waldorf Hotel – I’ve never seen such amazing bathrooms! (Except for maybe at the Plaza.)

And to our third and final Upper East Side desination, Bergdorfs! I’ve really never seen a restaurant so glamorous and so full of glamorous people in my life. I could lunch there every day of my life.

My only picture of the Bergdorf’s restaurant and I’m mid-chat. Anyhow, it sure was a treat! By the way, my lunch consisted of pink champagne. After lunch I dragged poor Tommy through the shoe salon, which is more like an amazon of stilettos and leather and crystals. I practically needed blinders on, I was going shoe-crazy. Unlike the last time I visited the shoe salon though, this time I left with no bags. Plenty of wishes and wants though. (Summer 2008 my mother and visited NYC during the July sale season when I purchased a pair of leopard Manolo Blahnik flats, seen here, and Prada nude pumps, seen here. Swooon.) Of course since Bergdorf’s is just next door to the most fabulous hotel, I had to take a photo in front of the Plaza, ohh memories!

Yep, I changed into flats. Zara white leather flats.

Fast forward about six hours and you would find me, along with a slew of other Vancouverites and hip New Yorkers sipping cocktails in the Ace Hotel lobby, which also doubles as a very popular bar in the evenings. The men went on to a bachelor party, (we went to NYC for a wedding, which happened Saturday), while one of the other boy’s girl and I marched off to the Meatpacking District to find some fun! And did we ever! I’m still waiting on the photo from Jen, but we met, and got a photo with, Lance Bass! It was all rather extraordinary the way our night panned out. We jumped in a cab from the Ace with the intention of getting out at a random spot in the Meatpacking District and getting a drink wherever looked good. It just so happened the cabbie let us off right in front of Ten June, a popular NYC club, (which, thanks to Miss Andrea Milner, I’ve been to before!). Of course, being only 10:15 or so, it was too early to go clubbing, so the bouncer told us to get a drink next door and come over around 11:30. Into the next lounge we went! Only after ordering a drink and grabbing a menu did I realize we had ended up at a spot I’ve been dying to go to for years, STK, a fantastic steak house and “it” spot, where we met Lance.

Wearing: Sirens white t, Zara pleated leather skirt, Zara leather studded belt, Marc by Marc Jacobs quilted clutch, vintage ring and H&M stud bracelet, with matte bubblegum pink Rimmel lipstick. Martini by STK. (You can’t see my shoes, but they were Stuart Weitzman patent leather 5 inchers).

Afterwards it was off to Ten June where we danced the night away!

- End of Day 2 -

Left busy city life for a few days over the Auguest long weekend for sun and sand on Thormanby Island, one of BC’s beautiful Gulf Islands! Days were spent reading, cooking, swimming and tanning, while evenings were spent watching sunsets, sipping red wine and cozying up to the wood burning fire place. Here is a small collection of photos from the trip! Thanks to Tommy for taking me along on a lovely little summer getaway!

It’s been ages since I’ve done one of these types of outfit posts, it felt good today to get the camera out and snap some photos. I mean, get the Nikon out, stacking it on top of a huuuge pile of books that balanced on top of my stool, then setting the camera to a 10 second automatic timer, getting a shot, then running back and forth from pose to camera to check each shot. Oh, the life of a fashion blogger without her own personal photographer. Fun. : )

Feels like I’ve been away for a week! Maybe because I missed blogging this past weekend, usually I’m writing or posting or planning a post each day, but 3 whole days without my computer! (Though, sometimes you need to do that!) Anyways, the majority of Saturday was spent on a bus waiting to get through US customs, (we left Vancouver at 8am but didn’t arrive in Seattle until 5pm… Brutal! Turns out all of Vancouver was headed to the States on Saturday morning), so there aren’t too many glam photos from Saturday.

Pictured above at Pink Door. But there was a glam dinner on Saturday night! If you go to Seattle, you MUST go to Pink Door for dinner! It was a magical restaurant, better than I could have imagined and so perfect for a first night in the city. The door is hidden, unmarked in an alley near the Public Market, and when you descend the stairs down into the restaurant, you walk into a dimly lit room with light pinky peach walls that are adorned with dozens of scalloped-edged vintage mirrors and many vintage chandeliers of all sizes hanging from the ceiling. That dinner was definitely one of the best I have ever had out. Our server was wonderful, the music and ambience were just perfect and the food was amazing! Five stars. After dinner the boy and I got caught in a rain storm, which apparently appeared out of nowhere while we were enjoying our triple-layer mousse cake. So we ducked into a busy Irish bar across the alley for a drink while we waited it out. It ended up being one of the most fun nights, very impromptu and spontaneous and just right for a weekend away.

From the top: Looking out over the harbour, (wearing a Zara jacket, Trina Turk shorts, Zara silk floral blouse, yellow pashmina, Zara leather flats, vintage Raybans and vintage Pierre Cardin snakeskin purse). Pike Place Public Market, Tommy outside the market with a carriage horse, fresh peonies inside the market.

Sunday morning was spent eating a decadent breakfast of eggs benedict with crab cakes at Boka, the restaurant adjacent to our hotel, Hotel 1000. Afterwards we wandered through some fine home stores nearby, (Tommy really is a girl’s dream when travelling, if we pass a shop he knows I might like to go into, he takes me in and then sits in the designated “boyfriend chair” while I try things on. I hope he knows how much I appreciate his patience, especially when my “ten minutes” usually turns into more like 30, or 40 minutes…), and then walked over to Nordstrom Rack, (where all of the discounted designer Nordstrom merchandise go). I’d been talking about wanting to go there for weeks, and after much searching through the racks, it did not disappoint! I left the store with a pair of dark Sevens with rhinestones on the pocket for a third of the retail price, a pair of white Trina Turk jean shorts and a Jason Wu pleated silk skirt which was marked down from $1650 to $100. That’s a savings of $1550. (WHO WOULD PAY $1650 FOR A SKIRT?!) For lunch we visited McCormick and Smicks, a popular seafood restaurant that has about 85 stores across the country. I tried an oyster, I don’t know why, but I was feeling optimistic and adventurous and so I slid a fresh, or raw, oyster into my mouth. Ewwww. Never again. But the salmon burger was delish! Afterwards we went to the market, a very popular Sunday destination. (Pictures above, and below).

After the market we wandered over to the actual Nordstrom department store where I found a charming pink Tasha bib-style necklace made of pink ribbon, lace and beads. Very pretty, and conveniently it went perfectly with my outfit for dinner on Sunday night, or maybe I planned my outfit around the necklace.

Monday was our last day in Seattle so we really made it count. We did a big walk downtown, visiting a number of shops including Barneys, Victoria’s Secret and a FABULOUS designer consignment shop that Tommy spotted where I found a white eyelet Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress, that just like my other DVF wrap dress, I swear was made for me. It was like heaven in a dressing room, that moment when you really like an item and reeaally want it to fit and work for you, and then IT DOES! Oh happy day. We went back to the Public Market again for delicious freshly-baked Nutella-covered crumpets, looked through a vintage book store and finally drank a mango cosmo, (me) and a pale ale, (Tommy) at Boka before packing up our bags and getting into a taxi destined for the bus depot. It really was a wonderful weekend away of exploring and relaxing.

Sad to say goodbye to Seattle! Now back to Vancouver life, I’m accompanying my friend Steph to a tattoo appointment this afternoon. Never mind that needles make me squirm.

A casual Friday afternoon outfit. Oversized black cashmere sweater, white Sirens jeans, B. Makowsky leather bag, cheapie sunnies from Bang-On and black Aldo leather wedges. Mmm cozy.

Well, today was my big day to accomplish all of the many things I have been putting off all week. The day started off quite productive with a breakfast run to Waves, (mmm the apple muffins there are so tasty), the usual collection of newspapers, (whilst I prefer the internet, I still have a love for traditional media), two blog posts, and even a walk over to the Vancouver View office in Yaletown to pink up a few very heavy boxes of the latest issue for an event I’m helping with in mid-May. Pretty productive right? Well after I got home from the VV trip, I decided I deserved a little break and immediately got caught up with too much reality TV. Which turned into an absolutely necessary trip downtown to see what the shops had to offer. Luckily for the plastic in my purse most of what’s in stores now does not appeal to me. (ENOUGH PLEATHER ALREADY! Where are the classic, moderately priced clothes that are made of good quality fabrics with care in construction?? Does that even exist? Do I have to start making my own clothes??)

It’s 9:15 pm and I haven’t even started on the laundry, or my homework… Good thing I’m taking a night off of being fabulous tonight, (meaning no dressing up and going out tonight!), though I am wearing a brilliantly subtle shade of Dior lipgloss that is littered with sparkles. I suppose that is rather glam, as is the new Vogue in my lap.

Okay, that’s it for now. Ta ta.

A little excerpt from the organizers:

The three part visual arts show will feature Vancouver’s top established and up-and-coming artists, photographers and designers throughout the entire two weeks of the winter games.

Running from February 12 – 28, the show will be viewable to the public throughout the daytime and will offer visual displays for the night scene as well. When taking in the art works, daytime guests are also invited to slip into Shine’s cocktail lounge to relax and sip on tasty libations.

Each day for the duration of the showcase, Vancouver Is Awesome will be blogging live from the venue, giving the public up-to-date information on the event’s happenings and sharing favourite Vancouver stories from the people who visit the exhibit.

Tuesday evening was the launch party of this fabulous event, which was put together in part by DelaCruz PR firm. The launch party was a gathering of Vancouver’s most artsy, from photographers, graphic designers and artists to bloggers, public relations people and various other reporters.

The curator of An Awesome Showcase, Randy Laybourne and I. (I’m wearing: Bebe mesh and sequin top, Zara leather jacket, black ripped Sirens jeans and rose-gold Fossil watch).

I can’t think of a better venue for an exhibition like this, the art was displayed so effectively against the lit-up walls.

Four of the featured artists.

Kelly Litzenberger, photographer and Editor/Art Director at Concrete Skateboarding Magazine with one of his pieces.

When I asked Kelly what his reasoning was for placing two panoramic images together, Kelly replied simply, “I don’t have a deep reason for doing this, I just thought they looked good together.” To me, this is art at its best. I’m not one for drawn out lengthy and philosophical meanings behind art. It’s either aesthetically pleasing to you, or it isn’t. And Kelly’s piece is! (Two panoramic images of the pond and path near it at Granville Island, taken from above on the Burrard St. Bridge).

Left: Another piece of panoramic photography by Kelly Litzenberger

The vibe in Shine was amazing, low lighting and lots of great people to meet, not to mention very visually stimulating, (I’m talking about the art. Although, for all the single ladies out there, this type of event was a prime spot for mingling).

What do you get when you mix two cute chicks with a mess of a closet? CLOSET DETOX. This is the latest and greatest way to renew and cleanse oneself without having to pass on that glass of bubbly, in fact, I say when partaking in a closet detox, having a bottle of champagne on hand is probably a very good idea!

So what is a closet detox you ask? It’s when two brilliant and stylish women take over your closet, leaving you helplessly clutching your champagne flute while they dissect each and every piece of clothing you own. This is an absolutely wonderful way to start off any season, especially the Spring season when you’re itching for a Spring cleaning, or a fabulous new wardrobe.

I spent my Saturday afternoon with the ladies of Operation Style, Jillian Crago and Kristy Rogerson, who came over on a mission: to give my over-stuffed closet a much needed detox and me a much needed lesson in closet organization. They started by completely emptying out my closet and then sorting out all of its contents into neat categorized piles; long sleeve, collared, vests, skirts, etc. Once everything was organized Jillian and Kristy examined each piece of clothing for its shape, colour, fabric quality and relevance to today’s styles. Most pieces were lucky, others, like an old black stretchy and very short Wilfred dress, were not. “Faded goes,” Jillian told me. I don’t know why I was hanging onto that dress, the last time I wore it I was blending drinks behind the bar at Cactus Club.

We all have items like this, say an old sweater that you haven’t worn in a year but that you haven’t gotten rid of because you “just might” wear it one day. Or maybe there is a pair of jeans hanging in your closet that haven’t fit properly in, oh about eight months, but you’re saving them because they’re your skinny jeans and you’re hoping that one day, mayybe one day they’ll fit again. (okay yes, I’m talking about my beloved Karl Lagerfeld skinnies). “Those pieces you never wear just stare at you when you’re trying to get dressed, which just makes it harder to find the right outfit!” Brilliant advice from Kristy.

As Jillian and Kristy went through all of my clothing, they created outfits for me with pieces that I would never have thought to pair together! I kept thinking things like, “I’ve had those for years, how come I never thought of pairing them with the cream blazer??” to myself. I won’t lie, at the start of all this I was feeling very nervous, almost nauseous at the thought of other people seeing what my closet actually holds. Some of those things have been in there for years, and I’m not talkin one or two, I’m saying yeeaars, like since 9th grade years. How embarrassing. Although my pride in showing the girls my Chanel pumps did ease the pain a bit. So I pressed on. As each outfit was created, Kristy took a picture so that I could remember them.
